I know they used to put small rock salt in 12 gauge loads and let them get out 50 yards and then pepper their arse with it. I don't do it but I know people who do and they swear by it. I also know of a guy who uses a billy goat to break deer dogs. He sprays deer scent on the goat and the goat will stomp, kick, and head butt the dog into submission. I know that works!

Another dumb a$$ idea. A goat could break a dog up if it got to kickin and stomping it. I bet a goat could break a beagles back or rib or who the hell knows what else. And shooting a dog with rock salt 50 yards out would prolly be hard as hell to do with a wide opean beagle running throu the woods. Not to mention if u miss and u prolly will because the salt will break up before it even gets to the dog... your gonna have to run the dog down. Good luck with that!!!

Well Toby maybe it would be hard to hit them if you are a pee poor shot!!! And I really don't give a darn about what would happen to that dog cause if it wouldn't quit running deer it would get planted plain and simple. Give it to someone and they probably will get tired of it and give it to someone who will breed the hell out of it and create more deer runners. DUMB A$$ !!

I got ur Dumb A$$. Maybe we should shoot the rabbit with rock salt and some ground pepper for flavoring. :D I thought when i went to Foodlion the other day the rock salt was looking kinda low on the shelf. Must be alot of deer runners in my area.HA. I thought the dog in the barrel was a dumb idea but yours takes the cake.
Have u ever thought that its not the dog its the handler. Ive never had a dog that i couldnt break off trash and if i did i would give it to a non rabbit hunter as a house pet. I would never give or sell trash to another beagler but there is plenty of them kinda people out there. Are u one of them?

I never said the shotgun thing was my idea. Learn how to read and then process what you have read. Here let me go back and show you.

I never have not been able to break one, but I have given them away as pets and then somehow they end up in a hunters hand and are getting bred!

I have tried it all,the dumber the harder I tried. The first thing I learned that help me was a live deer or any thing alive lives a trail of live scent. When useing things that are from a dead deer you are harming them while running smelling scent. Once I got an E_collar things began to come together for me. How I firgued this out was, I built the thing that Wick told how to fix up. I shock the dog every 2 or 3 hours night and day for two weeks. I could put a deer gland in my pocket and walk in my dog pen the dog would hide. BUT when he had the chance he ran the dickens out of a live deer.

my dog for some reason just loves deer after repeated scoldings she has earned the right to wear a collar which i didnt want to do,being an idiot i left it on 2 long an about wore her neck off, live an learn 8(.i feel real bad bout it so please no messin with me on that ty,but the guy i rely on,tol me to find a runned over deer an hack off a leg, wrap with wire, put on board, stick in end of electric cord, put in pen an it will help the dog realize deer are not fun. this is my next plan of attack to deter her.

jim matuszewski wrote:heres one that an oldtimer told me last year and swears it to be the best method start doing this before they screw up in there dog house in a corner mount a coffee can with a deer holve or deer gland off of back leg in it,I would guess that a rag soaked in deer breaking scent would work also. his expanation was that if they live with the scent everyday when they come across it in the feild they would have no reaction
Yeap, this will work. WOrked for me lots of times. I would throw deer hides and legs and scent in the kennel.

We shot lots of deer over those dogs. lol

Not meant towards you Jim, I hear this a lot. Same thing we used to get dogs to run deer.
