2004 AKC SPO Nationals - Judges Listed & Running Order
Moderators: Pike Ridge Beagles, Aaron Bartlett
I went two years ago to Nationals and ran my field champion and was picked up in under five minutes. He was a field champion in the mid-west and if you think a mid-west dog is going to run under the UGBF judges and do well you are thinking wrong. You don't stand a chance. I also heard with my own ears one of the judges state that mid-west dogs run nothing but deer.
1st Timer,
The entries should be about the same as they have always been over the last few years. Through the grapevine I've heard this and that from various individuals saying they wouldn't run because this guy and that guy was judging. To each their own I suppose. I have two 13" females qualified, however whether or not I have them back in shape enough by then, much moreso clean and close enough for judges from two associaton perhaps much more conservative then what I run in is the question at hand. Nevertheless whether I run anything or not, I'll be there to watch on Saturday. Who knows, I may role in Friday evening, I hear they have a pretty good dinner.
Much of the negetative that's been mentioned is probably true. I can't verify whether it was or not as they're always two sides to the story and I wasn't there... Therefore I'll not judge. However with that being said I think that if your hound is qualified and a judge from your association is judging the class your hound is qualified in then you should stand a pretty good chance at the least being competitive. Many talk about how SPO is so different from one place to another, but seems like no one wants to take a step forward to get to the unity that the SPO faction needs. I'm not saying everyone should like the same style or speed of hound, but for Gods sake we shouldn't be bitching about it every single chance we get.
I hope to see many of the folks from these Q/A boards there. Hope to make a few new friends and share some good fellowship.

Guys, all we can do is send our best and hope for a fair evaluation. I run upper medium speed hare dogs and I'm sending my very best 13" bitch and let the chips fall where they may. If the judges don't like her, that's OK. Few hounds will account for a higher percentage of their game than her and they'll know they saw a good rabbit hound whether she places or not. I'm just hoping that other guys will send their best hunting hounds too and that mine isn't the only one trying to run the hide off the rabbit. If each pack has hounds that aren't afraid to run the front and do it right, the judges have no choice but to take a good look at them. If there are only a few then of course, they will tend to stick out. I'm hopeful that a quick and clean hound will be judged just as fairly as a slower hound but we'll need to have more than one or two to make a good showing. I don't know either judge but just having a good hound qualified is reason enough for me to take my chances. I've been disappointed in plenty of other trials, I feel that the reward is worth the risk. Unfortunately due to geography, I'm forced to send her with a handler but I'd have looked forward to meeting you folks in Ohio. Good luck all!

Helpful Houndsman, I have asked you several times to identify your real name in our email correspondance but you have not. How do you expect to meet the guys on this board at the nationals if all you know them by is their log on name. Dont see what your hiding from. Im not some kind of pervert, just another beagler trying to put names with dogs/owners etc....
To First Timer: Yes, the brace people have just ONE National... And the brace people have around 7 federations and about 30 associations. AKC makes $2.00 per entry. They also have JUST ONE for the Large Pack Beaglers as well. Compared to the other breed competitions, AKC don't make squat from us. Check it out.
Why I ask you should the SPO Beaglers be treated special because they cannot decide on what kind of hound they like nationwide? For a long time, SPO Beaglers have many times, not known what they REALLY want in the way of judging. This problem is created by the BEAGLERS, not the registry...

Slow down DGTX. I'm not a A.K.C,rep.I don't care either way.I thought maybe the question would open the eyes of each association to get together and name one licensed , like the Midwest ,to have a Midwest Chanpion Trail. That way a person could addvertize his dog that way. I don't trail.
I'm with you Wells Woodbring back Lew Madden.Thank you .

Indeed DGTX, but whose to say what sect is right and which is wrong. Sometimes difference does make things more interesting, however with that being said it would be a lot easier if things were more uniform. This problem is created by the BEAGLERS, not the registry

Ain't hiding from anything, there's several on this board that know who I am. Don't see you posting as David Vondoloski. You use your nick I use mine. I just don't feel like I owe you anything, much less owe you a name. If that pisses you off, then so be it... by the way I thought you were going to leave these boards and go run your dogs some. As for how I'm going to meet people... As I stated above some know who I am, some don't... but for most that post here I know their real names.
Just another class act, will never cease to amaze me! Your right you dont owe anyone anything, it kind of fits your log on name!
