Re: Hunting places going fast
i dont kill alot of rabbits either , only because i cant find many , does that mean the next guy shouldnt kill them , not hardly , more power to them , lol , i would kill that many if i could find that many , Joey , anyone who complains about the number of rabbits you kill is jealous , plain and simple ! and as for eating 200 rabbits a year , you bet i could ! we eat 6 - 8 deer a year so i know i could handle that many rabbits ! we buy very little beef now , if i could kill 200 rabbits a year i could afford another dog

Re: Hunting places going fast
OH ! and as for hunting places going fast ! i agree ! and we all can thank people like Billi for that !

Re: Hunting places going fast
Lets get it straight I voiced my opinion ! I did not lower myself to insults as some of you have I may have hit a sour note with the meat hunters out there but thats how it goes
The guy from Mo is dead wrong as to who " that Fulcount Guy is"
That Fulcount guy is from the Adirondacks of NY and has never ran in Mo so get a fact checker!! before making a false statement thats how rumors get started!

Re: Hunting places going fast
Good lord fellas
, I'm like Arkyhunter and don't post on here much either because of this kind of stuff.......but I guess here goes.....................
For starters, Billi made a mistake and I think he realizes it. He was trying to relate to back in the day when it was done the way he talked about. I know because all my uncles and my wife's older relatives have told me the same thing. Over the years people stopped just letting you walk out on their property to hunt and that is definitely their right. At least the man said what he did, took his tongue lashing like a man and will hopefully learn from it and move on. Because I do agree, incidents like this are what make landowners not allow us on in the first place.
Second is for fulcount. You made an assumption about Joeyman that you should not have made. He "IS" a good guy and to the best of everyone's knowledge hunts within the boundaries of the game laws. I don't believe any of us intentionally shoot up all the rabbits because we will have nothing left to run if we do........and that includes Joeyman. I guarantee he would not shoot up a place that can't handle it but will also harvest responsibly from any property he has permission on. And even at that, if state law allows he can legally shoot all the rabbits he wants from a property so I think everyone is getting on you for making bad assumptions about someone you obviously don't know. And yes, people have made assumptions about you because of your comment to Joeyman so IF you care I can guarantee if you just apologized to Joeyman, everyone else would follow suit and admit it got a little heated. The words "I'm Sorry" go a long ways sometimes, but it has to go both ways too.
And for the record I eat more than a few rabbits every year. Whether I shoot them myself or whether they are given to me. It's healthy, we like it, it saves money, etc. That's my choice but I don't force it onto anyone else either.
Of course all this is JMO.
Say your apologies and let's get back to it.

Hey Bill,
You sure have them all fired up don't ya! I am not sure if you remember me but I met you down at the world hunt. You were driving Kent around and we were watching his grandsons run. I remember you telling me this same story and I wish the guys on here could have heard it from your mouth before they all started passing judgment. It takes a hell of a man to publicly admit his wrong doing . This story could have been changed around and the bad part left out and no one would have known the difference but Bill told on himself because that's the kinda guy he is. I would honestly like to know how many guys passing judgment on here have never stepped another persons ground by accident or failed to pull their dogs off when they cross the fence on to someone elses property. You all can chime in and say NOT ME but it has happened to us all. The whole point of the story was the good ole days are gone for some of us. I was great meeting you Bill and hopefully we get a chance to run together one day!

I for one hope you keep filling up your tailgait with dead bunnings.I heard that the proof is in the puddingfulcount wrote:I agree permission should have been asked for before going on someone elses property
Joey man
if the landowners you hunt on could see the amount of rabbits you show on your tailgate
taken off their property i wouldn't blame them a bit for kicken your ass off their property

GUNDOGS!And they must be rabbit hounds Not
FOX hounds!
Re: Hunting places going fast
Not sure a tailgate full of bunnies proves anything. I know guys without dogs that jump shoot a tailgate full all the time.
We all know the natural resouce departement doesnt care about small game. The bag limits do nothing to protect them from being cleaned out of an area. So to say that just because its legal its ok negates the fact that we should be responsible sportsman.
Where I live you would have to spend all day to harvest a limit for 2 guys which would be 10 and you likely would not be able to let the dog run very long or you wouldnt have time to get your limit. If you did this very often Im certain you would not be able to get your limit no matter how hard you tried.
Sounds like some of you live in areas where rabbits are heavily populated and harvesting a limit every weekend is no big deal. For some of us ensuring we have enough game to consistantly have races has to be considered. I dont think a blanket statement can be made if its right to be taking limits of rabbits. The fact that Joey consistantly takes nice harvests of rabbits lets me know they have plenty. If you did that in my neck of the woods you would posting like the original poster trying to find a place to run.
As my boys get old enough to hunt I hope Im fortunate enough to live in an area where they can harvest some rabbits and not have to worry about jumping another one. I sure harvested a bunch of them when I was a kid. Back then the farmers almost expected you to drop off a couple cleaned rabbits from time to time for their dinner table. I always did it, and was always welcomed back!

Re: Hunting places going fast
Open mouth stick in foot.lol The fact is im 70 my son is 45 we have probably knocked on more doors than one can imagine asking for permission to hunt over the years. We have also give the rabbits to the owner, candy , mony , hams, to get the ok for the future..AGAIN my point was a bunch of ground we have hunted has been taken by industrial parks, subdivisions, 10 acre lots. We have also done everything possible to suck up including picking up shot shells , making sure gates are closed, inviting them to come with us...I also have give up shooting altogether other than a few trips with a childs 410. However after all that im along ways from perfect but im working on it every day. I can see by the one fellow i told this story to inperson understood what i was trying to say however that is the difference in using this media and most probably think im some jerk stirring up trouble..

No Billi, I think they just misunderstood and then jumped a little bit. It's quite obvious you're not a jerk, you just made a mistake by not asking first.......it happens. I think everyone gets the point of your story now.

I hope I didnt give you that impression....
The place I harvested most of my childhood rabbits is now a sub division.
The cities are getting bigger and bigger.
I keep moving north, but even that is getting developed.
Hope your able to find a couple places, might have to start now for next season
