I got one from XDawg that was pretty much supersonic... kinda swarped across the line about oh, once ever 50 yards or so... barked about once ever 100 yards... that sound like what you want?

nwhoundhunter wrote:OK guys, I know you guys like fast dogs. What bloodline consistently produces the speed? Here in Washington, it's hard to find dogs, so we're looking to bringing some in at some point and I'd like to make a half way decent guess on what to bring in.
Be very careful when you are considering speed to be the biggest concern. You should always consider accomplishment first. I've seen a lot of slow to medium speed dogs that don't make up enough group for me to consider them accomplishing much, but I've also seen a whole lot of fast hound blow races way to often.

The fastest dog I own is heavy Northway Spur bred. She is a 13.5" female that can string out a pack at times. I have run with some fast Turbo dogs, but have seen some that were just medium. I own a young Turbo grand daughter that looks like she is going to be pretty steppy. Her bottom side is heavy Ace in the Hole. Some of the Northway/Patch dogs that were bred by Mike Crabtree can get it done quickly and accurately. I have not seen much Lake Ogemaw stuff run, but I have recently heard a great deal about them. I will have to hold off comments until I see it for myself.

waht are you looking for in a "fast dog"? Are you looking for a greyhound that can just put it's ears back and run? Or are you looking for track speed? I had a Branko / Weedeater dog that was faster than about any dog I have ran with, but could not run a line. He over ran 95% of the tracks he was on. I have a 11 month gyp that is super super fast, but still has to learn to slow down a little to let her nose catch up. I had a gyp that could tie on a track (sometimes a deer is why she is gone) and few dogs could get in front. She was Pine Mtn Bred. I have a 15" Northway hound that will blow holes in the ground upon ocassion and is a medium speed dog most of the time, sometimes slower. We have a 14" young Northway hound that is super fast. There are fast and slow in everyline, I believe. I don't care if a dog can fly in the open, I would rather have a hound that can keep a track going in the brush.

MOST OF THESE NORTHWAY HOUNDS HAVE A DIFFERENT BITCH LINE.AND IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR FOOT,MOST LINE BRED NORTHWAY HOUNDS(AND I ONLY USE NORTHWAY SPUR), I HAVE OWNED WERE NOT FAST BUT IF CROSSED WITH ,BIRCH LAKE ,SCHNAPPS,PAYCHECK , SOCK IT TO ME AND KINGWOODS T-REX COULD GET QUICK.AND STILL HOLD THE LINE,BUT THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY THING, IF YOU HAVE A FAST HOUND FROM ONE BLOOD LINE ,KEEP RUNNING YOU WILL FIND THERE ARE SEVERAL FAST LINES OF DOG'S.

Nor' Easter, The hound is Fulcount Clint which goes back to Woodstock Grampie, 2X Otterbrooks Snow Storm, 2X Otterbrooks Top Dog.

I guess the answer to that question is track speed. Maybe I'm just having trouble coming out of the big hounds here, but I'm looking for dogs that can flat get with the program and do it right. I first just like watching the dogs run and want them to do it with style and speed.

Just out of curiosity, when talking speed do most of you mean like, how fast a dog can run if it was chasing a car down your drive or how fast it can run a rabbit/hare while staying on the line enough that they don't lose it? I think there is a difference between the two, wondering how many guys will change their answer to the original question with that in mind......

Our Patch hounds smoke everything else in this area. Our stud Sage is pretty sure that his job is to catch the rabbit, not just bring it back. He get the job done fast and efficiently. I will tell you he doesn't open his mouth until that rabbit is trail is HOT, then it is a few yips. When he opens up, you better get your safe off, cause he is bringing dinner home. When we hunt with some of the "walkie talkies" in this area, he looks at them, huffs is mouth out as if to say "would you shut up and get to work". They seem to blow alot of energy with just nonstop barking that starts before the tail gate drops. They are burned up and ready for home hours before the Patch hounds every think of giving up.
