You're right! chains on my old full size 2 wd chevy would get me almost too far in the snow. Sure worked fine the few times I needed them.On ice a 4wd couldn't follow.

No, but my uncle & mother did, and my wife and daughter do. I was never able, cause I was such a slow learner and was never considered very scholarly. Farming and hounds were the only recourse for the weak of mind, but I did get lucky and get a job shoveling coal which lead to bigger and better things over time.
It has to be fare weather or school break for me to hunt so my wife can take care of kennels(she's a jewel) so that's when I have to plan vacation.
I'll try to be up there if I can get someone to go with me. It's a long drive by yourself and the weather is not the kind to be stuck in by yourself, so says my wife.
Praying the Lord sends a good disciple to go with...

I broke through the ice up on the Island and bottomed out, Bud's Toy Tundra had to jerk me out. OH the shameee...

My kids had a book called "My little black pony" and that's just the way it was, I was riding big Red the horse across the frozen swamp and he broke through and threw me. Little Black had to come out on the ice to get me out... ... they used to have great story books for kids and they had good lessons in them. All this has been lost to modern times, no wonder the kids grow up at such a disadvantaged...

Just got back from Drummond. Things seem to be getting bad up there. The Hare were scarce. We were lucky to find a track. The snow was deep(a foot to two feet) and the hunting was tough. Sheep Ranch road was groomed so we stayed at the Plains. We got a couple but overall it looks like Drummond is a victim of The Tradegy of the Commons!

The plains get alot of pressure, we had to go deep to get better running. Most spots were found by accident, a hare was started and never returned, we tracked the hounds in and there was usually a pocket of hare where we wound up finding the hounds. If I hadn't got the gps, we never would have ventured in that far.
Now the trick to figuring out walking in snowshoes... ...I'm not pigeon toed, will I have much trouble?

I just got off the phone with my brother and he said it rained all day yesterday and last night At 5:30 this morning it was 43 degrees and now it's 22 with light snow but the wind is howling at a steady 25 mph and gusting to 40 The snow is down to 8 to 10 inches but has got a layer of ice on top He thought the dogs would be able to stay on top but people would break thru. That does not sound like fun to me

We're the same, dropped 25 deg. only 15mph breeze. feels like 13. Looks like things will firm up, don't know if I can get mother to take care of kennels or not tho...

Patch, Chuck r and I decieded to go after the first of the year. I've got alot of family comming to my house Christmas Day and my wife really wanted me to stay and help with things beforhand and she's the one who feeds my hounds that I leave home so common sence told me to go after the holiday's. My brother told me that the snow is mostly Ice ( like styrofoam ) and that also helped with the decision. Chuck r should be arriving in Mi. sometime today. He is going to stay until the second week of Jan. so we are going to run cottontails until we go north. If you want to take a break from driving, I'm not that far off I-69 exit 60 just give me a call 517-819-2287 my house is 5 hours from the Island.

That don't sound real great but I don't have option of picking other times. I'm most concerned with road conditions, got any info?

Would love to stop and visit but it's a 12 hr go if we can keep up a good clip...

The roads were a ittle rough this morning but they are good now. Reports call for more snow Thursday/Friday and again Sunday/Monday The roads could get a little tricky then but I'm sure the Avalanche should do just fine.
