danny vansickle wrote:fast beagles, well, just about all the "lines" mentioned can throw foot, but, you have to realize, them dogs are only gonna run as fast as thier nose will let them,so,you need foot and a big powerful nose to come together right with the right scenting conditions to have a fast hound.......
That is the problem. I trialed and hunted a big male that my neighbor had. It was absolutely the fastest beagle I have see to date. He didn't do a good job running a rabbit though. He was always in the front, but never could do much with it.

I have seen several beagles run down rabbits in a sight chase and catch them with ease, including the blue tick male of mine that was killed last year.

Most Turbo dogs I have seen had plenty of foot and did a good job running the front.
Foot is easy to get when breeding, being able to stay at speed and hold the line on its own, and knowing when to slow down when it should is the hard part. I am much more impressed with a dog running 3rd and holding the line, than the two dogs in front that are continually blowing the line. We have all seen dog races where you get two competitive dogs in race out a long ways and neither has the line. They both are running to outrun the other, while both are thinking the other dog has the line. The line turned left about 100 yards ago

The 3 fastest hounds Ive seen run have all been grade dogs.I don't know what they were out of,but Ive seen them make some fast hounds look like they were eat up with heartworms.

My guess is 1beagler has been left in the dust of a Turbo hound  No one could have such a biased view of a line of dogs if it wasn't personal.

:check: Well if you like speed ole Dutch did win the Speed and Drive Category at 3 Big Pack World Hunts in 3 different states against different judges each time. The last time he won that category was at the age of 7, not too bad. :check:

When he won the open class at the World, he won Speed and Drive, Hunting, Trailing and Endurance categories, thats 8 hours of solid running too. :!: He is consistently fast and can bring a rabbit to the gun better than a whole lot of packs of hounds. I didnt breed him, I sure didnt do the greatest job of training him, but I did give him the time on the ground he needed. He has done the rest.

youre right most turbo dogs will run deer in fact most r crazy about them then why r there 10 in my kennell any young hound with out enough drive 2 run a deer probaly wont suit people who run fast dogs . they have 2 b broke the only reason any hound from any line runs deer is because the owner dont know how or is 2 lazy 2 brake them by the way i dont own any deer dogs just my thoughts.

Greek Hare Hound X Michigan Hare Hound

Purchased from a Greek Imigrant in Lansing, Mi.

This cross was my first beagle ever!
The Greek Hare hounds are larger sized beagles. 17"

This female of mine was honest as the day is long, super fast!, I've seen them all and she would catch a rabbit before it circled. Dead on the line. Turn on a dime. She didn't become a good rabbit dog until she got older. All of the rabbits would hole up. If they didn't hole...they were caught! She was Black and Tan like a coonhound and about 16".

She had the agility of a terrier. Quick on her feet with no clumsiness like most hounds.

Has anyone out there seen one?

I would suspect poor training.
I have not had a beagle yet that didn't take to deer, most drive them check free and take to it like a duck to water.
You have to break them.
