With the influx of yotes in the midwest and other parts of the contry, maybe it is time to rethink the beagle height standard. I look for the biggest and boldest ones with attitude these days. Puts a little comfort in my heart when I am running in God's country.

I LIKE TO HEAR ALL THE DIFFERENT OPINIONS ",A LOT OF FOOD FOR THOUGHT"I THINK THE STANDARD WILL CHANGE ,AND 13 IN DOGS ARE ALREADY RUNNING AGAINST 15 IN DOGS IN (N.K.C.)DON'T SEEM TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.I BELIEVE IN THE RULES AND GO BY THEM, BUT LIKE I HAVE SAID BEFORE I BREED THE BEST TO THE BEST I CAN FIND,AT LEAST IN MY OPINION. SIZE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.I AM A RABBIT HUNTER I BREED FOR ME FIRST, IF THEY CAN DO GOOD IN THE HUNT'S AND TRIALS GREAT, BUT IF THEY DON'T I WILL NOT CHANGE TO SUIT THEM.I DON'T HAVE A DOG OVER 15 IN.....IN MY KENNEL I LIKE A DOG THAT HAS EVERY INTENTION OF CATCHING EVERY RABBIT IT JUMPS,IT HAS TO HUNT ALL DAY EVERY DAY.HAVE THE NOSE,MOUTH,FOOT AND BRAINS TO USE THEM.DO I ALWAY'S GET WHAT I WANT FROM A BREEDING NO .I BELIEVE IF WE GO BY THE RULES RUN WHAT WE LIKE AND ENJOY THEM.IT WILL ALL WORK OUT, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART RUN WHAT YOU LIKE DON'T BELIEVE ALL THE STUFF YOU READ. Beagles are getting bigger only because people are breeding them that way. Today there are a lot more people running a faster type dog so they like them bigger so they breed to bigger dogs. Plain and simple! Dogs in America are getting bigger on average because in America everything has to be bigger to be better. Houses, cars, motorcycles and yes even dogs. In Europe where you can still get good working bred dogs they are always smaller than American breed dogs no matter what the breed. I used to deal with imported dogs all the time and talk with handles overseas so this is not hear say but the way it is. They don't like over sized dogs and don't breed for them so they don't have them.
I've been in the cur dog business for several years and the dogs there have gotten smaller because certain people were breeding in that direction. Do you think the curs got smaller and beagles bigger just because people raising curs wasn't feeding them well. Come on boys use a little common sense.

I see Rufus point on dogs getting bigger just like humans seem to be getting bigger and maturing faster. I think it is due to the steroids they use in beef. I read an article about this in humans awhile ago. I agree that breeding is a factor as well but don't dismiss others points of view so easily. Where there is smoke there is usually a little fire.
