I probably need my head examined for this post, but the thoughts are in my head
and I feel I must put them to paper.
Many years ago, long before PETA and people like Shannon, there were people living in
Alaska and Canada. The Wright brothers had not even been thought of and the
automobile had yet to be invented. People needed supplies and needed medical
attention. How do you suppose they were able to travel great distances??? They
sure couldn't call their local travel agent, or go down to the local supermarket!!!
Sleddogs were bred for the purpose of helping man in his quest for survival.
This so called sport, is only a sport today because man has strived to maintain
his heritage.
NOW picture this--- We live in a volatile world. 911 should prove to each and
every one of us that our way of life IS in jeporady. WHAT IF ----- some knothead
somehow unleashes a global conflaguration and life as we know it no longer exists???
Don't you think sled dogs in some areas (as well as horses, donkeys, etc in other areas)
just might be needed for the possible survival of mankind??? If that should EVER prove true
What a shame if man had not the use of such animals because of his own stupidity in
destroying the useful functions of these creatures!!!! Joe Kaschak

At the local fair, there was a guy who made mules do a high jump from a tower into a small pool of water. I have no idea if the mules enjoyed it or not, but the PETA types said why doesn't he trot his own "ass" up there and jump? They picketed the rodeo too.

It's a hard question. People have always made use of animals that some consider unfair and unjust. Merely owning an animal does not confer the right to mistreat that animal, or to make the rules about what constitutes mistreatment. Fair treatment of animals lies somewhere between shall we say bullfighting, and the notion that animals have the same rights as humans. Just where is a matter of opinion, and law. Sled dog races, triathlons, and 600 mile pigeon races are not illegal. Of course no one is cracking a whip over the triathletes and pigeons!

Maybe we need to draw up a set of federal guidelines about what is and isn't cruel to animals and put it to a vote (we hunters and sportsmen would lose, so maybe we don't  )

wow
this is crazy.

Shannon? WTF is wrong with you?
Man, we have enough haters out there without someone supposedly "inside" our sport talking bad about "working" dogs.
Let's forget what you have seen others do at trials. The cheating, beating, cursing, whatever. If you take your dogs out to run rabbits and not shoot you are putting thier lives in danger for nothing but fun. They could be killed or have a heart attack or any number of ways to die. And if you use them for killing rabbits, what choice did the rabbits have?
Arguments like this is what PETA and others want us to have. I call Bull :moon: .
Why do we put our dogs through all this pain and misery? Because they love it. Look at how excited the dogs are when you walk to them with a leash in your hand. This is what they love, not what we make them do. Stop and take at look at what you are doing, and you may be able to open your eyes and see that yes, dogs do die. Just as people die on the job. Horses die in the fields. Trees die in the forest. Death is going to happen when it happens. It don't matter that a dog is working, or sleeping, or taking a crap. Death happens.
This does not mean I condone anyone mistreating thier animals or other people, but it happens. Maybe we should go rescue these sled dogs and kill them and put them in dumpsters as PETA does.
If you would like to help them, I am happy for you because there are alot of cases where people neglect and mistreat animals. But when a dog catches a cold and dies, it is no more than myself catching the flu at work and blaming my boss. It is just stupid and so is this post!!!

I know I made this post a year ago during last years race and I thought It was cruel then and cruel now,,,I just like seeing SO-Called Sportsmen get there panties in a bunch,,,still acting like a buncha kids...anything that use's an animal for man's own ego boost just aint' my cup of tea..as trialing was NOT my cup of tea,,,due to like I said and have seen,,,bitching, fighting.talking about one - another -behind peoples back,,,,cruel for the animals,,, sad for a for man to know someone is talking about you!now fairness to all this ,,,,,just aint' there so dont defend trialing... cuz you cant have a fair trial with people placing dogs that did'nt deserve the win?Hmmmmmm wonder why I hate so called sportmen>Hmmm cheating in sports, dog trials, you name it ,,you will find cheaters,,as for the Iditarod,,,rename it (Ikilledmydog) ,,,for my selfish greed,,,, wanting some form of a EGO boost! sick! end of topic for me ,,,me and my beagles are happy alone with our rawhide, toys, and NO TICKS,CUT-UP EARS,TAPEWORM,,,and how funny no tapeworm since they havent been to trials,,,no surprise I'm much happier now! Shannon, did Gale ask to have her nails painted or was it your choice to do so, to fulfill a desire you had to have a pretty dog?
Are you a vegetarian? Do you burn fossil fuels? Do you buy from Walmart or another huge chain, and in the process support child labor in third world countries? Or are you really as perfect as you claim. Does anyone remember that thread about PETA supporters celebrating the death of a young boy just because his dying wish was to hunt a bear, which he succeeded in doing. I bet you thought he got what he had coming too don't you shannon?

Humans are as much a part of this planet and it's food chain as any other animal living. I don't like loud mouthed people who are so obviously ignorant, being allowed to even converse with sensible people, but it happens and I suck it up and move on. Next time you are going to cut someone up for spelling, maybe you should put yourself through a refresher course first, or just shut up and see if that works.
