WOW!!! all I asked was a simple ? and look what happened. I just thought someone might have had a similar problem thats all. Now, someone changed the topic to beating hounds I won't put any names out there but you know who you are. I am thankfull for all the responses. I have been doing this Beagling thing now for about 30 years, Breeding and raising hounds. One of my best hounds (Bordercreek Miss Emily) I had to put her down about 3 years ago, she was 16. I shot about 3000 snowshoes over her in her lifetime. I personally own 15 hounds at this time. Everybody say's if your lucky you will have 1 great hound in your lifetime well iv'e had about 5 of those hounds. I must be doing something right. I'm not a guy that sells many hounds, I always keep most of the hounds i breed then cull very hard. I do this for my own enjoyment and for the love of the Beagle hound!! If i see a young hound that has potential i will do my best to bring it out of them even if i have to keep that hound for a couple of years. It just might be worth it.

I have found that voice command and reward with a simple hug and kiss works the best in training. There is a fine line with pets or our children between rigid discipline and smart psychology. I would not discipline a dog for what you have expressed. It will do more harm than good in my opinion.

As far as your dog quit hunting goes, I 'd just keep running her and ignore her when she does this. Keep feeding her rabbits. She'll probably grow out of this habbit. I personally have not had this issue with my hounds past or present so if you find the solution be sure to let us know what worked. In the meantime, if you like this hound stay with it and be patient.

Good luck

I've had a belt and club took to me. I deserved it. I'm a better person for it. If i had a 14 month old beagle that was in in out, i'd use a switch to run it away from me. If that didn't work i'd get rougher. I would not let it stand around with me! I sure wouldn't pet it. I think e-collars are bad in the right hands, but i don't cry when soneone says they "fry" their dog because i have enough sense to know the dog will not have smoke rolling off him.

Rabbit Fever i'm sorry if i messed up your post, but i gave MO. To you others: I know i'm stupid, ignorant, backward...., but i know my hounds are good rabbit dogs. I bet i know what u feed.
Keep the best, cull the rest!
