Hi, Paul. I see you made it to Houghton, too bad about the hare population in your area, I'm sure you have the dog power to jump them. Jiffy has been doing great, gets better each time out. I will be running her at the Blue Water trial in Capac at the end of the month, she is a tight, fast, line runner, hopefully she'll stay down awhile. Take care. Brian.

I hope the hare population is better down that way, we just moved to Houghton and I've been walking too much to find hares. Maybe I need better dogs. Havn't had problems with ticks. Let us know how you do. I would like to meet up with my buddies this fall and run down their. It's kinda half way.

Hi TallPaul

I pulled up your location on mapquest. You are about 5 hours from where we will be.

Houghton is about as far North as you can get , and still be in the U P.

I bet you get loads of snow?

We run packs of 5 to 10 dogs at a time. With those numbers we have never had a wolf come in. :crossfingers:
I agree with that strategy. I know there are cases where multiple bear dogs have been taken at a tree by wolves but there are a lot more lone dogs taken, or so I've heard and read. There are wolves all around me and I run in there all the time and I tend to run a fair size pack and haven't had a problem......yet. Maybe its just luck.
It's not that life is short......it's just that we're dead for such a long, long time...

Hey Brian
Thats great Her sister, pleases me also. I left a open male from that litter with a buddy. He runs about every night, says the male is doing awesome. I thought blue water was having thier trial in Otisville?

TLee I did some running in those woods about 7-8 years ago, Population must have been up then, there wasn't but a few minutes, between rabbits. But since then I have heard the numbers of wolves have increased. I read of a young girl who was being followed by wolves, while jogging. Study your maps, try to stick to areas broken up by lumber trials. Havn't experienced the snow yet. Where I moved from, the annual snow was 35 inces, here they get 350 inches in a winter. One thing is for sure, I miss running and hunting with my friends down home.

Hey TallPaul, I'll be in Houghton this weekend. My Son plays football for Michigan Tech, (homecoming weekend) and there is a hare trial just out of town. I've never been to a hare trial so I'm going to check it out this weekend as long as I'm there. If your interested in going to the trial, the info. is on http://www.northernmihare.com. Look up Lake Superior Beagle club, there will be a map. You might find some new friends at the trial you can run hounds with.

Swampman do you know when you'll be out there? I met an older gentleman Tues. Apartently his dogs, found a rabbit and were running--- crazy. but got out from hearing, his property adjoined the section I was in. he is a hunter not a trialer, like to hook up with him one day. anyway it's suppose to rain all weekend, so I thought of shooting a few ducks. I've been past the club and drove up to the grounds at LS, but haven't hit the trial.
Blue water is this weekend? I'll send my buddies out there Bill, they've been wanting to meet you. That's where home was, Otisville.

I went up to Wisconsin this past March and we shot 24 in 3 days in front of 3 of my dogs. The running is phenomenal!!! Not sure where to book, but we're going back again this Feb. or March and we're looking for a couple more people... We've got a free place to stay, 2 places actually about 20 miles apart.

In Short, any place that hare are strong in numbers, would be worth the trip. It always seemed Maine would be a good place. Guys are running hare and finding dropped moose antlers at the same time. But I imagine running hare in Maine isn't much different than running in Canada, NY, or MI. Every place has it's own ombiance. sp? Like Drummond Is. It's crazy running in the Plains. There's good times when shared with friends.

Bill, You're not to far, from where home was or my buddies. Maybe you guys could meet up. Hell he won't come North, move 800 miles and you're forgotten about. Think he got the best of me, Bought my truck and has two of my best hounds. :???:
