I wonder what The Beagle Barn Beagles do all day every day?
Hmmm...they don't hunt, they don't show. They can't all live in the house can they? From what I see those dogs are simply commercial breeding stock with no life outside of their kennel runs. I have a problem with that.
I say to the Beagle Barn: If you are going to be a BREEDER do it right. Put the pedigrees up. Do all the testing (Boomer, got that list?), and please quit breeding all those mediocre dogs to eachother.
I've got a site I think is much worse than that one tho. This one really gives me the creeps!

I talked to a lady Who was Contacted buy a Gentleman From the Beagle Barn About purchasing a retired 5 year old Champion for thier breeding Program When asked About thier program They were very evasive said they Did not show,or hunt thier Dogs they only breed them for pets So she Said no sale unless they wanted to nueter the male his reply was What good would he be then?
I cannot make the Connection Between the Utah beagle barn and the one in Colorado is no longer listed Either.
For Some reason it just Dont FEEL right to me!!!!!!!

Thank you Cindy! As I said in an earlier post I hoped you would weigh in on this one. To me average at best in the best of specimens and down right poor in the rest when it comes to conformation. Hunt...who knows? I rather doubt it though.

Well, the way I see it they breed the one that is nice but has a high earset and short ears to the one with the snipey nose and yellow eyes and on and on and on just producing WORSE puppies as they go.New York Hillbilly wrote: To me average at best in the best of specimens and down right poor in the rest when it comes to conformation. Thats why most good breeders send their bitches out to be bred. If you breed to what you have in your own kennel, which if you are like most of us may be one or two nice males if we are lucky, you probably aren't going to improve your Beagles.
Every dog has different faults and virtues and the good breeder is going to know those pedigrees and what is hidden in the genes before he mates two dogs. That is why for my bitches first breeding it has taken over a year of researching pedigrees and talking with her breeder before deciding on the dog we are going to use. And then it is still a crapshoot but we try to stack the odds in our favor for producing some really good dogs.
With my puppy bitch I am constantly looking at her and thinking about her pedigree and of what studdogs might be good for her someday. The dogs I think of breeding her to are not the same ones I think of for my first bitch......because they are both very different and bring different pluses and minuses to the table.

i call myself an "average" type hunter and personally i think the average guy (or gal) is gonna breed about 95% for field ability and worry about 5% on conformation. let me state that i would never breed dogs with what i call major flaws like a bad bite or crooked legs or epilepsy, cataracts, etc but im not gonna worry too much if their ears are a bit too high or short or if their tales are not the proper length. my dogs arent gonna win any conformation shows i bet, but just last week my vet said they were the healthiest and most well built beagles she has seen in years, so thats good enough for me.

Brian you are taking your dogs to the vet, breeding for health and ability in your sport and getting kudo's from the vet. Obviously you are doing something right
with good Beagles in mind. I am certainly not complaining about breeders like you.

new to beagling but heres my input
First of all
You think 200-300 is to much goto the mall, pay 600 for a house bred beagle and teach it to hunt then come back here, second and my biggest reason and i now have a litter upcoming im posting here, I breed my dog to get a good line i was looking for and what pups i have left and they new owners, willingness to purchase and that they can afford the pup. If they can only afford a 50-100 pup chances are they cannot aford to feed, house, give the attention to the pup it needs and deserve. So i see it as a blessing, to see the price were it is and I believe that if your willing to pay for the quality you will be willing to work the dog to its fullist.

I was gonna stay quite on this have been watching this thread since the beginning .Now I see the need to step up and knock some folks off there high and mighty horses .( Steve and Honeypot) .What makes you think that because someone can't pay more than $100 for a pup that they can't take care of said dog .You folks sound like a bunch of snotty show folks !!!!There are a lot of starting beaglers and young beaglers who don't have $300 to spend on a pup but you best well believe that they take good care of there dogs and in a lot of cases better care than those who spend a lot of money on there hounds. If you pay attention to human nature you will see that people who don't have a lot or can afford a lot do a much better job of taking care of what they have. This attitude that you have to spend a large sum of money is a bunch of Horse!@@##%$# if you talk to most beaglers out here you will find that they didn't start with expensive dogs or equipment myself included heck my first dog that I can call my own will be free which I will pick up this weekend since he 's free I guess i won't be able to take care of him and put the time in that goes into owning a hound .That being said you will not see me post on this again !!!

Puppy Prices
Try to buy a show puppy.... will cost any where from $500.00 to $1500.00 depending on pedigree and location...........

GBeagle,
You misunderstood the post. There is no snobbery going on here. Plain and simple; Owning a dog can be VERY expensive. It is not fair to yourself or the dog if you don't have plenty of room in your budget to care for the animal under routine circumstances and in the event of emergency...and anyone who doesn't want to put much money into the purchase of an quality animal certainly is not going to want to put very much into its upkeep.
Ask any of the fellows here how much they spend on their dogs. I am pretty sure that across the board you will find that they all spend a pretty penny making sure their hounds get the best care they can. I just wouldn't sell a puppy to someone who might have to take food out of their kids mouth to feed the dog. That's not fair to do to anyone, especially the dog.
