The way cattle tags work is they slowly release the chemical inside. I would assume this is why you never hear of it affecting animals so different in weights. I use the YTEK Pythons on everything from the hounds to our registered Angus herd and haven't had any problems to date.

Durvet makes Spectra Shield Collar Attached Medallions for dogs. Have same active ingredients in same proportions as Y-Tex purple Python Cattle Tags. Cattle tags are 9.5 grams. Dog tags are 4, 6, and 8 grams per dog weight. Dog tags cost $20.00 each. Cattle tags are $33.00 for 20.

Python purple tags are what I use, no problems.
