We have bleached the well on the Farm for years and we're all still on the right side of the grass.
If we don't, the water smells like acid.
We do run the water for an hour afterwards to purge it.

I have done this also, but I let it sit for 6 hours ( WELL WATER ) and then purge it.
And I change my water every day ( For my Hounds ) and in the summer when it gets Hot and the Water Pail starts to get Green I Bleach out the Pail and clean and Rinse and add clean Water. jmo

Yes, we let the bleach sit in the well for several hours, but purge the well (run the water) for one hour after.

Ken,

No apology necessary, thought that I didn't make myself clear.

In Michigan you only need it June -August it's too cold for algae the rest of the year. Lack of exercise is real bad for dogs but the last trial I attended there was some fat ones. Hate to think how many dangerous chemicals are in the $20 a bag feed some of you feed....doubt the bleach is biggest concern.

I am sure only a few drops of bleach is needed per water bowl. Think how many drops of food coloring it would take to color the water. But I dump old out and give fresh daily I don't have any issues so no need for me to worry about health issues.
