I have seen dogs that refuse to run with a shock collar. I guess they got shocked once too often.

I did have a gyp that would only run and hunt for 2 hours. She would sit at your feet after that, but she was real good for 2 hours. An old guy that never hunted for more than 2 hours got her and was very happy.

I did have an old female that would come out of a running pack and sit by me, but if it broke down she would go back in a start it up again and return to my feet. She was 14 and that was fine with me.

Some dogs will not tolerate much tritronics. I've had a couple, one that I gave away and the other I sold because I recognized they would not ever take the shock collar. The one I gave away, the guy loved and kept him until the dog died. Under his care he was fine. The one that I sold, I told him the situation. Don't shock him or he is is through for the day. He has hunted him for two seasons with no problems except when he got into an elecetric fence.

A hound introduced to a electronic training collar correctly should never suspect the collar of anything other than it's time to go hunting. If they understand the collar bites somebody misused the collar or initiated stimulation before the hound was use to wearing it. My hounds turn themselves inside out when they see the collars coming cause they know it
Means they are going to go hunting.

One thing I learned over the years is, "you can never say never".
Each hound is an individual and each person is an individual. The strengths, weaknesses and faults of each are unique to the individual. A person or hounds ability to read and understand actions, desired or required, the timing and seeing with all the best intent can still come up short or misinterpreted, leading to confusion.
Some hounds can't take much and some people dole it out too freely, a disastrous combination.

The first things that came to my mind were, a fight, overuse of shock collar or shock collar malfunctioning with out notice or getting shot while pursuing a rabbit. These are the only things I can imagine a hound quitting all together from hunting. Most, if they're getting out footed or jerked around, will still go off to find their own rabbit to run and avoid mean or faulty packmates...

I agree. The dog has to learn to respond to the tone and the owner has to learn his dogs and how best to use the collar.

There is a tree stump near where I load the dogs. They will jump up on the stump, often knocking others off to get the collar attached, so they can go run. When I unload they run to the stump waiting their turn to get the collar removed.

Some dogs learn easier than others. The same holds true for people. ;)

I wondered if I might of had a malfunctioning e-collar , no may never know. If somehow one receiver may be picking up another ( bleed through ) on a small amount ? Maybe just enuff for the dog a feel it . Or maybe a dog could since when another close by was getting corrected ? Electronics can be wiered sometime
