Bill
Tell him to run him over with the truck, he has every legal right to protect himself.

No gun with, and don't think running over would be considered self defense when the truck hits him 20 foot out in the ditch or peel out marks all over the yard...LMAO

Chappy, they do work. Been raising hounds for forty years and I have never seen a dog that liked fireworks!

Your buddy just set himself up for a problem. Why in the world would someone chain up a dog in wolf country. That's like putting a minnow on a hook and throwing it in the water. The poor dog has no way of defending himself what so ever. When we go to the UP, the only time our hounds are on the ground is when they are running or being fed. The rest of the time they are in a dog trailer. Leave a hound out at night and it becomes dinner to coyotes or wolves.

yeah jim it was like 8 oclock he let it out the back door like he did the last 8 years of the dogs life, and went to call him in like 10 mins later and he looked out to his dog being eaten by 3 wolves... :( :( he said it has not been this bad for years... in the last 2 year they seem to really aquire a tasted for dogs, and are bolder than they ever been... he told me that the neighbor had them trying to get in the bear hounds pens...
he said for years they killed other animals for hunting in there territory but would never eat them...now they seem to be eating every dog that hits the ground in certain areas...

he also said that the bear hunters have been using fire works for the last 5 years but this last year they dont seem to be working...

chapko, we have a Golden Eagle named Fly Girl that we take along. She flys over the pack while they run Hare. She protects them from any Wolves coming in . Here is a couple pictures of Fly Girl in action. :D

I got a few I will send if you guys need some extra dogs Troy. Mine are Wolf proof!

If you find that is not true do not worry about it. The Wolves have eat too.

I hate I am not making the trip with you guys.

I do think that the time of year is important as well. I would not go up there during the time of year that Mr. McGuire and party went up. There is no hunting season in and the wolves have gone several months without hearing any gun shots.
With small game in and the bird hunters in full force, they tend to move to safer grounds. We shoot a lot up there as the hounds are running, along with some bottle rockets, letting them know they are not welcome there.

Tell that to the ones on this board that have lost hounds to wolves on the Island.

I can't say positively, but I believe the snowshoe population is higher on the mainland.
IMO, hunter population/pressure is less, you will have more options and costs are definately cheaper on the mainland as well.

Have a fun and safe trip wherever you decide to go.
