Why not put the pack on them? I see plenty of people running them in the fox pens, couldn't you run them with hounds to the gun, like deer hunting? Call some of the local fox hunters and see what they say. There is a way to trap them, as people buy them and put them in the fox pens here. I agree they are a dang nuisance and I expect they will get worse and worse. I knew a man in canada who said he loses at least two dogs a year. He says they will not stand and fight a pack of 5 or 6 hounds if all of the hounds will fight, but instead will stretch them out (by running) over time and turn and kill each hound one at the time. His story, anyway.

coyotes

Folks I hate yotes like most of you all, but alot of these ideas are just unsafe or very illeagal. Calling them is pretty good way, but it is to boring for me and them yotes are very smart. I use to coyote hunt with hounds and works pretty good. In order to do this quite of few things are required. To start you need hounds. Usally the foxhound strain work the best like walkers, goodmans, triggs, julys, and their crosses. You need good track hounds, warmer noised hounds. It is a big plus that they have some or alot of grit and deer proof. Some folks use guns or some like to catch and kill with just the hounds. Coyotes circle alot just like rabbits, but alot bigger area ussally. They run from country block to block to block alot of times, so you need to get access to many landowners ground. Land and premission is one of the biggest problems with this kind of hunting. You will need trucks with cb's or marine radios and the more the better. It is reall hard to keep track of the hounds and to get where you need to kill the yotes, more comunication the better. You deffinately need tracking collars some hounds will wind up miles from where you start them. Good coyote hounds are priced simular to beagles but the good ones are always high. I quite this yote hunting because the lack of ground it takes and the high price of gas. Well I will quit rambleing I hope this helps.

Coyotes

In the news paper in syracuse, NY on monday there was a article about coyotes right in the suburbs walkng right down the street in broad daylight. These people have hired a guy to kill them but they keep out smarting him. Some people have had them follow them right down the street. they have been known to take small dogs and some children a short while back even had a close call with them. These coyotes are getting bolder and bolder. But yet the animal rights people don't want them killed. Let's see when they hurt one of them or there family. I will kill every one I see. I worry about my dogs all the time they are running.

here in ohio , i have a friend that hunts them with a pack of, cur dogs crossed with fox hounds, they killed 85 last year, they chase them with trucks, and radios, they can travel 15 to 20 miles, its fun to see,

once they get pressured they leave the area, for a long time

Hey guys, I use an electric caller for fox, and one fox call that works good for coyotes too is the "Grey Fox Pup". They are natural enemies and a coyote will come in to this call wanting to check out if the pup is alone so he can kill it. And the "grey fox and coyote fighting" is another good call for yotes as they usually come in fairly quickly but like most you will have only a few seconds to make your shot count. A good fox call is the red ad grey fox fighting tape, this will bring grey foxes right up to your feet and reds will hang out a ways and look things over. Just a few tips from a beagler that also thins out foxes and yotes so I have some rabbits to run with my beagles...

The Johnny Stewart caller and tape brands work better than the others I have tried. Good luck guys.... I have killed over 75 a year and this hasnt even dented them, for every fox or yote you kill two more seem to appear ... lol Most land owners will let you come down and kill foxes or yotes on their property, this will usually get your foot in the door to build a relationship on for possible future hunting of other game by building trust and showing him your responsible and trustworthy.

Amen Mohawk. I like the JS512 myself. I'm wanting to go to the Foxpro, but I think I'll wait until the upgrades come out. Looking at few coins for it! Quite a bit of my hunting areas has been attained through coyote hunting. Gotta love that. ;)

The biggest problem with coyotes is their adaptablility.
If you start killing them. The females have more litters a year, bigger litters and more females per litter.
They are not the biggest threat to rabbit populations though > BUSHOGS/FESCUE
They also use dogs here. THey will actually run them down and kill a coyote.
A friend of mine.. has a big sheperd mix dog that he runs with his pack. he doesnt runanything he just likes to stay with the pack, thus offering a guard dog.
I personally run 15"+ hounds and always at least 3 at a time. Never had a problem.

ive hunted coyotes the way big pete describes-- this is a good sport-- but its not the only way-- try it with a couple coondogs-- slower mouthy dog-- coyotes run a much smaller circle-- hunt them more like u would rabbits-- very effective especially if u have smaller blocks of woods- if u have snow u can figure which blocks coyotes are in before u let hounds go-u still will need tracking collars- occasionally a coyote will run cross country but many will be content to stay just ahead of a dog- lot smaller circles than when they are pushed hard by fast hounds-take less manpower- i know guys locally who kill more coyotes with a half wore out coonhound then a lot of guys with high power coyote hounds- -another effective way if u live where u can do it is a bait u can watch from your house-- i know guys who have killed 20 coyotes or more and shot all from there house-- no special effort- it really bothers me to hear about poison or fishooks- used to kill coyotes-- these will get them but id rather take my chances with the coyotes- pete

Poison and hooks is not the answer and shouldn't be. TO much danger and risk involved.

If you really want to get them, get you a mean a#$ pit bull, find their den and let him go in there.

Ask your local warden about hunting them at night. Most states will allow it, even though it might be against the law. As long as the warden knows and can come check you out some time, most have no problem. Put a pile of old hamburger meat in the middle of a field, get you a cup of coffee and wait. Occassionlly turn the light on with a good flat shooting gun.
