Jim tank will over run some, but will slot up when another turn behind him.(he not perfect) he will push the race hard from the rear and cause faster dogs to bobble the track so he can pass on the line
if u Solo tank he is upper med speed real tight to the line, but when ran with 17inch beagles all his life he learned to pick his head up an move. This also tends to bring out his competitiveness.

Tanks best quilities are his hunt, nose, check work. he is not my best hound but when lined up with dogs of his line he is the fastest one I have seen. When I se e another like him I hope he is for sale or up for studd

All my hounds have extream hunt when cut lose they dont check in. when they jump I move in for the kill

Why do some people talk down about green bay hounds ? You open Better Beagling and you see hounds with green bay blood winning trials.

I really want to see a dog that will run the hare down like chapkos dog. This could be my last winter trial for the year. I'm not here to start any problema, if I offend any one, please let me no. Chap calls me out that his dog will whoop my dog for 100 dollar. I don't want to bet with him, I just want to get to see his dog runs against field trial dogs. To chapko, I want to see internet legend run under an akc judge. Calling out to chapko, I will offer u a better deal this time. Free register to one dog 15" male, free breakfast n lunch, 200 for 1st, 100 for 2ND, 50 3rd, 25 4the. U won't have to spend a penny when u get there. This is a once in a lifetime deal. If your dog don't do very well, I promise to keep my mouth shut. If your dog wins, I will come on here n brag about it. Plus I will breed n get pups from your kennel. Let me no chap. Go to nmha n event is at baydenoc. See u there chap.

I heard they only come in Green and Yellow, with ticking of course

I have seen some smoking fast GB hounds, seen some very deliberate line control GB hounds, and some that were somewhere in between and could flat out drive with control leaving nothing for the pack. Biggest thing I seen with the ones I have owned and judged is that most of the time they will be back at the point of loss and know how to work it inside out. The person that said the one they own will give away some checks because of this....a judge should be looking for the hound bringing it out from the point of loss...not somewhere else. The hound bringing the line out should be given the chance to not bobble the check or prove they cannot move it (babbling) before ever giving score to the other hound that jumps 10yds in front to take it out. Even then, I always have a hard time giving that 10yd head start dog score over the dog that found the line and pulled the other dogs in....my opinion only (pet peeve). What were we talking about again?

Oh ya, Green Bay hounds....IMO....depends on the cross, who trains them, and the opportunity they are given. ;)

I dont drive 3 hours to a trial let alone 13. Well said ohio hunter how many of these fast hounds were 15 ?

Imo most guys that run 13 dont no foot. thats why they have 2 different classes

Put all rhem 13 inch greenbay dog with a 15 inch snapps dog an than u will see the different types of speed

BCBeagles wrote:Medium speed by most standards. Line control and check dogs is there strength, at least in mine. I have a couple that hunt hard and one that stays busy, not as strong on hunt.

They just do there thing and run the rabbit. They don't care what mistakes the dogs out front make, they run the rabbit. I enjoy mine a whole lot. Got a cross coming with a footy male, front end hard driving type. Competitive dog that can roll crossed to Butkus' littermate sister. Super excited to see the blend! :D
I believe you have just described Ranger Dan from what I have been told by guys that were close to him and in what I have seen in that line. Not the fastest in the world but nice on the hunt, lock on track dogs and check work second to none. I have been told that these traits are how Ole Dan made IFC as it certaibnly wasn't his size or speed .

I am sitting here laughing an rereading some of the posts, entertaining for sure.

IMO, Joe K. and Green Bay have done well with dogs that are bred well and exposed to game regularly to get them to a level to always be competitive. They fit my style as mainly a rabbit hunter and no excuses kind of guy when it comes to running. I like consistancy and point of loss work with the ability to push the rabbit as fast as the scenting allows. They do that for me and I am pleased to own them.

I will probably own more from Joe K. if he will continue to sell the top level hounds he consistantly puts out. He treated me MORE than fair and I have the best hounds I have ever turned loose as a result of his work, not mine.

I have owned a littermate to Butkus. He was a 15" male med fast line running son of a gun. Great check dog and on double backs. He wasn't the fastest dog in the world but he could run the crap out of a rabbit. I bought him as a pup after seeing Wiley run. She could fly and so can a lot of those other 13" pocket rockets out of her. Some of the 15" dogs are also pretty good. Most that I've seen don't need much help running a rabbit or hare. Some of these dogs have won and placed all over the country.
