Right on my man! I know exactly what you are talking about.A lot of guys around these parts trial that type of dog and they claim they "never have checks".I've spent some time watching them at trials or at some public running grounds and the reason they THINK their dogs never have a check is because they NEVER shut-up! The ones I've seen routinely continue to bark all the while in the check area.
Guys claim that the dogs are working scent and that's why they keep barking----------okay then why aren't they making forward progress????
I want a dog that shuts his mouth when he doesn't have it and opens and fires out of there when he's sure he's got it.
Many want to claim that their dog is very cold nosed or has a "big" nose when in truth he usually lacks brains.Just my personal preference but I can't stand a dog that boos around.

I never seen a perfect dog,But some are better then others. What i do know is some days they run like champs, other days they run like chumps. Today was a chump day for me .

On poor running days I have found too many dogs to be the biggest deterrent from having a good race. 1-2 dogs is limit. Humidity is biggest single factor. Hot dry or cold dry.

I SAY RUN ALL KIND OF DAYS. THE BAD DAY YOU SEE WHAT YOUR HOUND IS ALL ABOUT. On the bad days your hound learns more.

I agree with littlewoody. I like to run my young dog in all types of weather conditions. All different times of day. I thinkn it makes them smarter, And a dog with nose power will soon be conditioned for most all weather conditions. And you will have less chum days.
