Butkus fans!!?

Re: Butkus fans!!?
He is doing real well for himself thus far. He is out of two OUTSTANDING hounds with outstanding reproduction pedigrees. It doesn't surprise me that he is really producing winners from an early age like he is. I have two litters due sired by Butkus & one female sired by IFC Greenwell's Reggie and another female sired by IFC Green Bay Shooter the butkus pups will be born First of June and the last week of June I'm selling 1/2 of each litter. I will see if he turns out, I am excited about both females pups due in 5 weeks time. I have really heard good things about Butkus from guys that are calling about my pups they were just at the McVay's watching Butkus run.

Re: Butkus fans!!?
Butch Saari sorry if the spelling is wrong if you go back and read in the better beagling Butch trialed and owned Shooter I do believe but ive been wrong before so dont hold me to it.
Re: Butkus fans!!?
To answer the question on "why dont you go to the source" the answer for me is simple.....shooter doesnt have the cross of Wiley. I understand shooter produced butkus but wiley had a lot to do with it. I want to breed to butkus because I will have shooters genetics and wileys genetics all in one package.
Re: Butkus fans!!?
I spoke to Butch Saari a while back on the phone about Shooter. First off the guy is a really nice person. Anyway He said that Shooter was the one of the best males he ever had the pleasure of running. This comes from a beagler thats been in this sport for a whole lot of years. Btw I have a female directly out of Shooter and It's really hard to explain how she runs, she kind of twist and turns with a cottontail. She has to run every little bit of the line but she does it with pretty good foot. Below is a short clip of her running with a pup and you can kind of see how she turns with the rabbit. She is the open marked dog. The cars in the back ground are on the other side of a drainage ditch that the dogs can't cross .DH

Re: Butkus fans!!?
Have not seen butkus ran personally, but we used to own butkus littermate jifka. She is one hell of a dog. I couldn't ask for more out of her. I used to raised grade dogs that could get the job done day in and day out and bragged how good my dogs were all winter long. My brother brought Jifka and told me that if his dog beated my than I should get rid of all my grade dogs. I told him you kidding me, cause Jifka was about 12 3/4 in. tall. I took my best 3 males and one is about 15", 17", and 18" tall. After 30 minutes into the run, I pack up my dogs and told him that it was over. I'm a man of my words, so all my grade dogs that could run all winter long was sold and gave away. It open my eyes that there are better dogs out there. Right now, I won't feed if it doesn't have shooter or butkus in the pedigree.
We went back and purchased Max from Joe and Max is one of the best snow hound I have ever seen. If my grade dogs was still around, they still have no chance running against Max. I was glad I get rid of all my grade dogs cause beagling is all about enjoyment. It is not fun when your dogs get beat by your running partner day in and day out. Especially when they own only one dog and that one dog beats your whole kennel. I'm a very big fan of Butkus and Shooter, or maybe a big fan of Greenbay's kennel.

i'm still working on getting my shooter pup started. she was born jan 7th 2011. We'll see what we got after a missouri gun-season on her. I'm crossing my fingers she's a keeper.
Re: Butkus fans!!?
Joeyman,
If she ain't a keeper for you then let me know as she may fit into my pack of Ranger Dan hounds like a glove.

I think Butch Sari (sp?)
Re: Butkus fans!!?
out side of paw king which other hound out of butkus has done anything?
i have talked to a man that had 4 bitches out of him and all the bitches were out of different bitches.
he told me that all of them were the biggest deer hounds he had ever owned he said he has shocked them, beat them, used the barrel with deer hide in it. he said he would cut them lose and they would get on a deer trail and run them till they jumped a deer. he said they would be gone for 5 days
i like the greenbay stuff but but my guess is butkuts will never be the reproducer that shooter is. i think the hottest shooter cross out there is out of shoreacers shakers dinha

Pups off of Butkus are very young, he is only 4, I believe. I think that folks are just happy with what they are seeing early on. You are going to have BAD in all!!! I have heard nothing, but the same thing off of Reggie bred hounds and they were tough to break as well. It sure ain't stopping his breedings!
Butkus is bred to reproduce and with the right crosses some beaglers will be very happy with the results just like the Reggie followers. You will ALWAYS have a nay sayer cause they had a bad experience, JMO.

Green Bay Shooter
Green Bay Wiley
Green Bay Sandi
Green Bay Blue Bay
Green Bay Paw King, etc.,etc.,etc.
Why wouldn't you guys go right to the source?
I have a friend who has a Butkus male (not from Joe), and he isn't worth a d*mn.
My point being, the female is just as important and even more so, the guy making the decision in the choice of matings.
I think there should be a little more credit given to the guy making these successful crosses.
Here is a breeder that is selling young champions only to have another right behind it that appears to be even better.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but I have seen Paw King run, up here in winter, and he is quite the impressive little hound.
Just my .02 worth,
Swamp
I agree with this post in so many ways. However I understand that most of the people responding don't have a clue when it comes to breeding dogs so they just assume its all Butkus!
Re: Butkus fans!!?
Just give credit where credit is due!! The sire is part of the equation whether Green Bay Kennels or any other kennel makes the choice to breed them. I personally would love to go to a stud that has the potential to throw a better hound than himself isn't that what we are all after???
Love folks calling the "average beagler" unknowledgable and undereducated when it comes to breeding!!
They must be second in line behind Green Bay at those trials???
Green Bay Kennels reproduces WINNERS and Butkus will reproduce winners too, oh wait he already has! When whoever figures out the cross percentage influence of dam and sire PLEASE let me know so I can be out of the "most" category on breeding hounds!!

Re: Butkus fans!!?
There is more to winning trials than the breeding.
You need a dog with "the tools" but you also need to know how to use the tools. For the guys that dont know how or dont have the time to work the tools, they usually think the trials are crooked. If you took all Greenbay's dogs away from Joe and he started over he would soon be right back in the winners circle. He knows what he is doing and he puts in the time! This doesnt take anything away from his line of hounds, it just shows you what they are capable of.
