Words can't describe what I feel right now. I'm so sorry for you guys.
I have a female out of Syris and think a lot of her.
She's not a year old yet and I had her in with the only male I own.
I made a stupid rookie mistake and she ended up pregnant. The pups are due in a couple of weeks. Give me a buzz if you like and I'll set you up right.

The pup was out of Syris and Singleton's Tango which is of Sock it to me breeding and the sire is out of Mikerma's superdog and sock it to me breeding.

I just hate to hear about the beagling world being without Sy.

Sorry for your loss.

I have heard nothing but good things about Sy.

Hopefully one of his pups will help fill the void.

Thank you all for making this hard time a bit easier. It's something to see the impact that just my ole hound could make on so many people. Syris, as all of my hounds was very special to me. But Im more glad to know that he had been special to all of you and maybe to the sport. I place a very high standered on my dogs. Hard hunt, fireing out of the check, and never quiting. And I know they expect the same from me. Thank you all for reminding me of that.
Without going into detail that at this time is dificult for me to do. Syris had always been an escape artist. We used to call him "Hudini" for the way he could open any latch, or climb out of any type of kennel. This last time his head got stuck through the opening he was trying to squeeze through. And as quietly as he lived in the kennel, it was also how he died. Some things are unpreventable, and this was just one last time that Sy showed his desire and determination that made him the good hound that he was.
This has also gave me another crazy thought to run Sy's son, Smokes Creek Maximus Crank for that same tripple crown title. Maybe a "once in a lifetime hound" could happen twice with that same determination and desire? As time will answer that question, it will also help ease this loss. Thank you all for being sportsmen as well as friends.

Rick, you know our hearts are breaking for you. Sy will always be my "Cover Hound" and hold a special place in my heart as well. I was so proud to feature him on that very first issue of The American Beagler. Sy represented everything I wanted the magazine to stand for; he was a champion in all registries and one heckuva hunting dog. Your generosity with Syris and faith in me when I was a newbie was much appreciated. I'm also glad I eventually got to lay hands on him. When I snatched Syris off his chain in Petersburg, picked him up and kissed him square on the cheek, he looked at me like "WTH?" ....but he was a gentleman just the same.

Best of luck with the sons and daughters of Syris. They have some tall pawprints to fill, but I have faith he left you something good to remember him by.

Rick, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Sy. I know I well always remember judging him at the midwest derby run-off. He was the only dog I ever seen track a cottontail to a small pond, go on check at the waters edge and then swim to the other side and jump the rabbit still sitting in ponds edge in the water.....Sy was an amazing rabbit dog. and he wont be forgotten.

Rick i am very sorry to hear about your loss of SY,he was a one of a kind hound and that's why i've never regreted purchasing one of his pups thanks to you and Jamie.I study and read all about him for a long time before purchasing one of his pups and he has turned out to be everything his dad was. I also push my hounds to be better than the rest, but he seems to know what i expect of him each time in the field as if he is reading my mind in some way.i fill he has the same triats as Sy such as hunt, desire, line control, speed, brains, and speed on the checks. But i guess one of my most favorite traits i like the most in him that i fill came mostly out of Sy is his loyalty to his master, and that's why he is and always will be my favorite. My thanks goes out to you and Jamie for allowing me the chance to have a dog like this in my kennel, and thats why i named him Major Mcgee cause i feel he everthing Sy was.
Sy picture has and always will be on my wallpaper as a reminder.

It's always a sad day to see a good dog like Sy go. Sy will be remembered forever by rabbit hunters, Trialers, and Beaglers, and hopefully we will here good about all his offspring. Well the saying is true..... The Good Do Die Young....

Sorry to hear about Sy. I came into the sport recently but have heard his name alot. Apart from everyones firsthand knowledge...if looks could run a bunny, there are probably a few still tryin' to catch their breath.

Rick , words can't even express the way I felt when you called and told me that Sy had died . My mind flashed back to the first day I ever saw him run . We were standing on the hilltop at Java , the pack was running a hare and when they crossed the path Sy was 15 yards ahead of the pack and dead on the line and never missed a beat . Being a new beagler I had never seen anything like that before , and have very few times since . I am thankful for the many times I got to run with Sy and the good times we had doing it (except for the way you always pick on my dog).
Thanks to You , Sy , and Woof , for showing me what the words great hound mean .
Your Friend , Carl

Syris McGee

I want to take a moment and send my deapest regrets to Rick. I met Rick approximately 6 years ago at a popular running area. I had reciently purchased a dog and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread until I saw how real dog should run. Rick had down Syris and Woofie and they were a sight to see. That day I went home thinking a lot less of what I had in my kennel but striving to have what Rick had. Since that day I consider Rick one of my closest friends and we have run dogs on a consistent basis with him. I have had the pleasure of watching Syris run hundreds of times maybe more and he was by far the most exciting dog I have ever watched. Rick sold me my first Sy. pup about 2 years ago and I started making winers packs and placing in trials. I am happy that I reiecved a pup from syris but very sad for the loss.

Talk to you soon Rick.
