wvbeagler74- It was not on amherst property.
Bigjohn- I do not have a bad opinion of trappers as I know that there are some who abide by the law and others who do not in any sport. I appreciate everyones response on this and the traps did not have tags so I knew they were illegal. I also agree with you that trapping is a great management tool. Also the dog that was caught the longest was a pup that hasn't been on a leash and I guess he was in the shape he was because he was struggling. When I got there he was on his side breathing a very shallow raspy breathe. His tongue was purple also. I don't know about the lock as I am not familiar with snares. I know the only way to loosen it was to first make it tighter and then by holding the lock in a certain position I could loosen the cable.

Sounds like a nonrelaxing lock which according to WV law isn't legal.I urge you to report this to your game warden as it gives not only trappers a blackeye but all sportsman who pursue game animals.I'm glad your pup was okay.Persons who break the law in such a way are no more than poachers to me.They think of only themselves and not of the consequences their actions create for other sportsman.Antis have long targeted trappers as a stepping stone to stop all sportsman from the pursuit of game. It's ironic that they stand up there and condemn the use of renewable resourses while wearing clothes that are not made of such. The fake furs they wear are made with petroleum products that use a nonrenewable resourse to make and take forever to breakdown once discarded. They also have to have some insulating added to even come close to the warmth of the real thing.Whether trapping is your thing or not,all sportsman need to stand together or we shall truely all fall.
