Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
Jim i think your on the right track. There are people that breed to hope to get a good dog out of a cross then there are those who breed to continue a line or increase certain traits they desire in a bloodline. You should make the cross! I didnt see where you hoped to sell all the pups so dont let people make your kennel decesions for you. Jim just asked for opinions and described the hounds pretty good if you ask me.
You can breed to the best male out there and the best female but this dont mean your going to get a litter of awesome hounds. Its a shot in the dark. Neither does line breeding, but in line breeding you can control what you want and what you can expect to get. Im not a professional breeder and sometimes waste hours of a day trying to figure out good crosses for my dogs. A good line breeder can tell you exactly what your dogs are more then likely as far as ability, confirmation, etc. I seen it personally last weekend! The man knew my dog to a T and has never layed eyes on it or watched it in the field. All of this based on dogs three generations back. Could be luck i guess but not likely. Talk to your older line breeders they can learn you something! Of course all dogs arent going to follow suit to a line and really most intense breeders would cull these. But a higher percentage of them do follow.
Jim if you like the dingus line then line breed it. Keep what you like and cull the rest. If your like me you cant kill them so sell them as pets. Good luck with the cross! They should have good hunt and good line control.

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
Thanks for the feed back from all! I ran these hounds today for about 5 hours and they did a nice job for me. Jake hunted the hardest I have seen yet and was at or near every jump and did not show his sometimes uninterested approach that he has in small spurts. Lilly is a hunting beast and goes until snapped up. Jake did a very nice job as he usually does of keeping all things clean and not worry about the rest. Time will tell if I do it as I am not going to over load myself with young hounds and not do them justice. Thanks again!
Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
I just had a litter this afternoon that is a half brother & half sister cross. 6 so far, not sure if she is done.

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
outcrossing is popular because there is a vodoo factor to inbreeding. inbreeding stabalizes a line and brings consistency to a litter. in no doubt do i disbeleave that outcrossing has produced outstanding hounds. at another look though isn,t a hounds true value the ability to reproduce him or herself. i guarantee you unless reggie or tuna or junie or superdog or XXX. ever are breed to thoer mother or daughter they will never reproduce a hound as goo as they are-were. with that being said with the inbreeding game you are also going to have failures. just knock them in the head and try again. if doubling the line leads to bad things that's fine just switch lines to something similiar and try again. of course when an inbreeding fails people will tell you that it failed because you inbreed. how many outcrosses produce turd eaters? countless. and for all the ney sayers come watch my line of inbreed to hell dogs run. but bring your best. Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
This is true i only go outside when i see my line breeding is starting to miss a important trait that i desire and then and only then do i step outsideand then i only look for that trait that has faded. then i start all over again with line breeding. The reason so many people get caught up in out crosses is how dogs are promoted and i tell you from experience if you do not have a very good female i do not care how good that male is it is not going to happen you might get a couple good ones but my bet is you will get more bad ones. Reggie Jack of all trades tuff enough superman and on and on and on they get where they are not because they have a great litter its because they play the numbers game. Numbers do not lie but people do look at the number of bichtes that have been bred to reggie and i am not knocking the dog i put the world title on the dog GREAT dog. He is only going to go into hall of fame for top producer because of numbers game if this reward was based on percentages you would have alot more females in the hall of fame then males I gurantee it. Boys its about recipes not pedagrees.

LawsonBeagles,
Just to clarify for those looking to take offense, the comment on the pups was meant to be a joke.......I don't ever worry about who sells pups or running dogs because they make their own reputation. If BCBeagles sells good pups he will be able to continue to sell pups. If he sells junk, he wont sell much of it before guys quit buying. I don't think BCBeagles sells many dogs, at least on here......
The reason I poked at him is because I can't count the times Ive seen guys ask if they think dogxxx X dogyyy is a good cross, and then 6 weeks later they have the pups for sale. BCBeagles is on here quite a bit and I know he has seen it.
This thread would be worthless if everyone posted in favor of this cross, and told him he is right on track. There are always two sides, and no matter how gentle the other side is presented, it makes people mad......that's the entertaining part to me!
Good luck with your cross if you make it......the proof will be in the pudding. We see this type of post quite a bit on here......."should I inbreed". Im still waiting for someone to report back that they inbred some dogs and it worked great...............

BCBeagles asked for help making a kennel decision, if he didn't want dialoge, he wouldn't have posted..............I didnt see where you hoped to sell all the pups so dont let people make your kennel decesions for you.

Mybeagles,
Thank you first for your service to our country. I did not take offense to your post as you usually keep things real and I respect that. I have researched a lot of pedigrees to learn for my personal use and you are correct I don't sell a lot of dogs. I breed as needed for me and found this could be a very interesting cross if indeed it does happen. I, in the case of this cross, would not ask much of a price if I did sell any at all. I also monitor as much as possible what leaves my kennels, as far as pups go. I am just trying to produce a nice hound for a gunhunter if they want one and mostly for myself for the future. My hounds suit me and that is the only person they need to suit. I apreciate any and all feed back. Oh, by the way I am making a complet out cross to White River Coal Miner in the future. Want to buy a pup?? LOL.

Inbreeding is the way to go if your trying to create a consistent line of good hounds. Only outcross occasionaly to add something you think you maybe missing and then go back in tight breeding.
Total outcrosses have produced some outstanding hounds but what have those outstanding hounds produced? in comparison to line bred hounds.

DJC,
Great point! I have a plan if I do this to use it as a building block for later. I am confident linebreeding this close can really lock in some traits I want and I can add in something I think may be needed later. We'll see.

What you are calling inbreeding I call Line Breeding (half to half). Whats your opinion on this? I know you have been at this for a long time, so your input is valuable.
Inbreeding:
father x daughter
full brother x sister
daughter x son
Linebreeding:
half brother x sister
uncle x niece
grand x father
grand x mother
etc....

DCJ,
Outcrossing has produced some outstanding hounds, and many of them have gone on to be great producers themselves............Not sure what you base your assertion that great hounds dont produce???

Please tell us what inbreeding has produced........Inbreeding is the way to go if your trying to create a consistent line of good hounds. Only outcross occasionaly to add something you think you maybe missing and then go back in tight breeding.
