I used Purina Puppy Chow all my life until 2 years ago. The loose stool was horrible in chain link on ground kennels. I tried Diamond puppy food and found it to be a nice food. I recently used Pride puppy food. Pups did ok, but I am not going to use it again. I am going with the Diamond naturals line next time. More digestable and just seems healthier. I know there are better out there according to the labels, but my budget dictates what I feed.
Now as far as wormers, I have changed that a bit as well. I use NemexII on momma one week before welping (worm her with Drontal Plus when bred). I then use the nemex at 2,4, and 6 weeks on mom and pups. I was using Safeguard after that, but had worm problems this year after using it 4 days in a row at twice the recommended dosage. Took them to the vet and she said there have been many problems in ALL animals using Safeguard. Seems they are building a tolerance to it. I am using a generic form of Drontal now for all my eight week old pups. It cost me about $3 per pill at my store here, but it is worth it to get clean health bills for my puppies. Also, don't forget to watch out for cocidia. I lost a 7 week old pup to this before I even knew much about it. I knew birds, cows, and chickens get it, but never thought about dogs getting it. I now use a generic brand of Albon to treat all my puppies, sick or not at 4 weeks. I give a 5 way shot at 5 weeks. Then 7 way shots at 7 and 9 weeks.
