Re: dog won't hunt some times??
I get a real kick out of this board. Some people that come on here have no sense of humor at all. bwe007 you don't even have a clue who or what I am. At least if I got on here and called someone a name he would know my name and where I live. I come on here to have fun and if you don't like it screw you. If you have a problem with me I will be at the Little World so just look me up and we can discuss it. P.S. I don't abuse my dogs or other people either.

bwe007 if you own hounds and you have never had to lay a hand on them then you are either buyin your dogs already broke and someone else has done kicked them in the a$$ or everybody would want the bloodline your runnin,i doubt it's the second option,so let's here from you what is your opinion on how to fix a dog that wont hunt and wants to stand around your feet, you don't want to shock a dog to leave your side so what do you do pat him on the head, here's what i do i break me off a switch and whip the little basterd in the brush what he does in there is his business but every time he comes out to stand around he's not gonna like it,,,,and when iv'e had enough then he or she finds a new home, but you keep runnin your perfect dogs ,,and me and bobby will keep kickin ours in the a$$

You were looking for advise, I would give the dog away as a pet. You don,t need a dog that will not hunt. The other problem is running on the side & not working wt pack mates. Cut your losses and get you a dog that fits with your type of hunting.
GOOD LUCK,

I agree with JAZZTOWN.Cut your lose and give it away if you can't live with the fault.Let nobody kid you if you have dogs long enough you will get your share of sorry ones.I laugh when I see kennels that state jump dog supreme.jump dog deluxe etc. about every dog in their kennel. To keep above average dogs you have to be willing to cull hard....

I would kill a few rabbits over him before I made a decision.

I didn't see Bobby say stomp the hell out of it, a swift kick in the but sometimes is what is called for, and works, not trying to kick field goals with it. Bobby does a fine job with hounds and knows his stuff, not a idiot, only a idiot would post calling someone they don't know out of name.bwe007 wrote:your an idiot.Bobby Vest wrote:Kick him in the a-- at least he won't just stand around you.

Re: dog won't hunt some times??
i have talked with bobby and appologized. my old kennel partner used to kick field goals with them when they wouldn't hunt. when someone says kick them that is what my mind sees. we aren't partners or even good friends anymore.

This is what i have done and what i would do. It may not work all the time but it does work a lot of times. I've also lost my temper and kicked them in the butt, but that never worked for me.JOHN L wrote:I would kill a few rabbits over him before I made a decision.

I can see your point about the deal with your old partner. Life is way too short and we all have too many real problems in life to worry about anything like this. I have no problem with anyone and pray I never do. I can be in a terrible mood and all I have to do is turn on the computer and look at the pictures of little Owen Miller and those Patch pups and it's like erasing a tape. I feel like a completely different person. I would have to vote for Owen as the All American boy. I will lay odds right now that he grows up to be a good man with a great personality.

I had a dog that quick running with my pack becuase she couldn't keep up. She would come back to us and just hang around. I started running her by herself and she did great. I ended up selling her to a guy that had a slower pack and she did great for him.

Re: dog won't hunt some times??
Kicking a dog may not add up to abuse for some but it sure will never add up to good training. Kicking the dog will not make it hunt. The dog will equate the kick to you being an a**hole. If that's the desired result then training accomplished.
If the dog is not hunting then he goes back into the dog box. The dog will quickly learn that there is no reward for not hunting. Given the choice between hunting and sitting in the dog box, the dogs desire to hunt will go up. This lesson should ideally be taught during initial training as a pup. It is unlikely that an older dog will suddenly gain the desire you will want in a hunting dog. I personally would start looking for a pet home for the dog, but that's just my opinion.
