Im running 5-6 nights a week. I start an hour before dark and run for 1-2 hours. If the humidity drops and temp isnt over 75 at night I run her all night. Been getting 2 sometimes 3 overnighters a week.

IMO much of this depends on the dog. Some dogs seem to handle the heat real well and recover quickly, while others seem exhaused after an hour and take 2 days to recover. Im fortunate to have one that seems to be able to handle heat well. Conditioning them in the heat, a quality diet, and cool shade and water all day seem to really help.

I don't run much when it's real hot. Not worth the chance of overheating a dog. A seasoned experianced dog is not going to loose much after being laid up for a while. Once it cools off and they get back to running, they will be right back where they were.
I live back in the woods you see, my woman and the kids and the dogs and me.

Arkansas... nuff said... was 85 at 5:30 this morning... heat index 91 degrees... remember I said 5:30 this morning!!!!
Yesterday I left work 5:20 .... truck and bank said 108 ... they are calling for heat indexs in the 118 - 122 range today
and tomorrow, almost lost a hound last year to heat exhaustion... so we stay in the yard, I dowse them down with cold
water (twice yesterday and probably today and tomorrow) and in the evening we threw ice cubes out and thay ate them
like popsicles.... too dern hot to run em here.

Guess I need to move North East... lot more beaglers there anyway

Its been very hot and humid here too this summer, and with all the flooding, the mosquitos are unbearable.
Seriously the mosquitos are like killer bee's right now, even during the day.
I was born and raised here and have never seen mosquitos like this. Off, Repel, nothing stops or deters them.
I feel like a pin cushion just going out and doing chores.

Come on OCTOBER!

be very careful guys.i overheated one of my young dogs yesterday.scared the heck out of me........she got wobbly in the rear end, then fell over.her eyes were bloodshot something terrible, and she started flopping around and couldnt get up.i rushed her back to the house and cooled her down with tap water slowly.she was back to her old self in about a half hour or so and appears fine today.......i have been bracing my dogs late in the evening for about a hour to a hour and a half right before dark.im stopping now until it cools off some after this.......i dont think we realize just how hot and humid it really is under those bushes in the cover where no airflow is...

Here in the south the heat just seems brutal as there has been many 100 degree days or better.I have a couple pups from last year that didn't start until March so I was trying to get them as much work as possible up until July. They were doing real well so I haited to stop running them but it's just seemed to hot and I worry about them getting snake bit. They kept getting better and better everytime out so I'm eager to get them back in the woods.I'm sure it want be long as I'm getting the bug to see how they are going to do.
