Bobby, anytime you wanna run let me know. Dickie is a young hound, but he's gonna make his mark this fall I hope. Only person that has seen him run is Matt and he is a believer in the bluetick monster.

The best I've seen ran with very few checks, great to hunt with, but that type running will not score points.
Your Missy and my Rocket would not do well at all at a trial.
I have a freind that trials in LP he told me the same thing Dont make sense to me the best dog is the dog that has the least checks i would think I run with him and his dogs create alot of unessasary checks imo and my does to from time to time but i have 1 that will eat ther lunch if they have a check

I guess i dont really get what your saying either,thing is when you throw down 5 dogs that never run together and like to run with speed there will be checks.Even with slower dogs you will have checks.You stated above you have a dog that when there is a check it will eat their lunch, that would be a check dog.The dog that picks up the most checks keeps the races going so it is awarded points for doing so.IMO ill take picked up checks versus the race being over.Maybe you should enter this dog in a hunt and you may do very well with it.. Hmmmm!!!!!! Been awhile since they were around but how bout JRHS Possum,Mars hill White Lightning, Bartleys Star, Cody's Sharp Jackson, Bruner's Lucky are a few that come to mind but they were around quite a few years ago...
What i am saying is she runs a 7 7.5 in speed and can hold a rabbit for a lond time without a check if a dog in front of her has a check she will run threw them still pounding the bunny if their going with her they better get back with her they had a check she didnt im not saying she never has a check but they are alot less than the rest of my dogs
I judged the semi finals of the grands two years ago at the world...tony upton dog not sure on the name and mike crabtree honey bitch had the best battle I've witnessed in a one hour cast...Best 2 check dogs I've witnessed during a competition when it counted...
A 7.0 hunting dog is obviously gonna have a lot less checks...I want the dog thatll crank it up to 11...C'mon
Just two different hunting styles...that's all...Nothing more...but there is no comparison IMO
Just curious, what is the largest number of total checks you have ever seen in a one hour cast, how long did it take to jump the rabbit before running started?
What would you say was the average time for those record number of checks, I understand they have to be 15 seconds minimum, but some go much longer.
If ur askin me I have no clue...I don't store that info for recall...I am only impressed by a dog that can run any style running rabbit in all the elements with consistancy and speed...Gotta have a big nose foot and a brain to go with it...Sometimes the chase is full of checks sometimes its not...
Weedeater Tramp, Wells Big Bomber, Bumper 2 Bumper, Logan Elm Willie, Buzzsaw, Windy Ridge Knicks Missie, Reggie are a few that come to mind. I've either ran with or judged most of these dogs and they are top notch check hounds, who I could pack a shotgun over and kill rabbits all day.

I judged a cast that produced a rabbit in less than a minute and ran that rabbit for a whole hour. The cast yielded 410 points. 410 points = 16 checks and 1 strike. I would say that the average that day was less than a minute for a check. Some were 15 seconds some were 2 minutes. There was probably 12 minutes of down time on the 4 circle race. After 15 minutes two dogs took over the pack. They were both Turbo Dogs. One was owned by Ray Threadgill and the other was owned by David Medlin. You can really evaluate a pack on a run like that. 16 checks sounds like a bunch, but if checks are scored properly on forward progress and not some arbitrary yardage that a dog has to travel it is not that many. That rabbit was seen multiple times and could have been in the game bag easily.
One of the best check dogs I have seen belonged to my buddy Pete Tuck. He called him Ace. He had a gift for getting long run saving checks. The trend in the trials I notice seems to be calling a dead track after a few minutes and trying to jump another rabbit. Some of the best hunting check dogs pull the 10 minute checks after the rabbit runs a log or doubles through a trash pile. Trialing is fun, but it is what it is.
