Me personally i feed a little more , then after birth of pups i let her eat all the puppy chow she desires.I have always thought by gorging her now cuts down on pups per litter.Just a thought.I also was always taught to give a parvo shot to the bitch in the last tri-mester.A ol trick from Mark Swartz. I have never had parvo so may have something to it.

Jimmy,
I have heard about people giving parvo shots to the bitch before she has pups also. How many weeks before welping time do you give your shots?

I switch to puppy chow, split her feed to twice a day, I also give a cal-sol vitamin about about 2 weeks bfore pups or you could add cottage cheese. I want females to have plenty of milk.I also give some canned mackeral.. keep exercising her. After pups I put on full feed as much as she wants. Keep giving canned fish a couple times a week.
It may seem I go a little over board but I only raise a litter or 2 a year and I want strong healthy pups and don't want to loose any.
Be sure she is worm free. I use nemex during pregnancey.
I would not vacinate her now you should have done that to boose immunity in pups the week before you bred her. Good luck.

the last booster shot was given First week of September 2009. I dewormed her with a good dewormer the week before she was bred and haven't given her anything since.

thanks for all the tips guys I'm learning from this. I never really have litters the last time I tried this bitch didn't take. I'm pretty sure we took this time around but I used another female of mine and a different stud too.

I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask you guys once we get closer. I thank everyone for the help.

What do you guys recommend or have had good luck with? We are 35 or 36 days into the pregnancy. She is starting to show now and is extra hungry.

Joey, I made the mistake of over feeding my female and she had a very hard time having her litter. She had 7 very large pups and all but two died. She was in labor for a long time also.

I advise you to call your vet. and get his advise on feeding your female. I would not over feed her myself. I think your vet will advise you to not over feed her. Four cups a day seems like too much to me.
