If you had the same line are you insured the same results....?

No, alot of people don't know or ain't willing to do what it takes to make good great.

It takes alot of work.... Not just time, but the right time doing whatever it is the individual dog needs...

If I judged his dogs better than mine I would go "A". Wouldn't make any difference what anyone else thought.

All our dogs are from a long line of famous and not so famous different breeders as most all of the breeders of the dogs in your dogs pedigree, on paper or not, are dead. You will never know what each of them were breeding for as we all like different traits and have different goals and Beaglers always have and it will continue that way.

To have your own line is to say you'll only have it for a short time and you'll be dead and someone else will use what you started and someone else started, put them together, and continue on for a while.

If you've had a real good dog that many others have seen hunting, I'll wager its blood is in their lines or they have a pup off it that you or someone else bred. Grade or registered.

Dogman wrote:First off all this is a hypothetical question not about anyone, any line of dogs or any style of dogs,so please don't let it go that way.I just want to see how people feel about there line of dogs. Heres my question. You've been raising a line of dogs for several years trying to improve them into what you like as a rabbit dog.You recently meet a fellow beagler and have since ran dogs with him on several occassions under various conditions. There is no doubt in your mind that his dogs, young and old ,just flat out dominates yours to the point that it would take you years of breeding and luck to get the kind of dogs that he already has. Here is the loyality part, what would you do? (A) accept that your dogs are inferior, buy some of his get rid of yours and start again (B) breed your best to his hoping to get rabbit dogs like he has or (C) ignore the fact that his dogs are better and continue on with your own bloodline and keep trying to improve on it
I'll be the first to say that mine are far from perfect but I don't see (A) being an option without me moving to a different part of the country or the world. After thinking about it I think I'll be with this line I am working on for a long time, Lord willing.

Too much kennel blindness in this game. I am constantly looking for great hounds, they are few and far between because we breed with our hearts and not our minds. I would go for the best......meaning a hound that suits me. A hound that does it the way i like. Breed best to best to get the best. Here is the deal, I like to raise my hounds from the beginning, I would probably buy some pups from the best that he had.
