If you want deer and aren't having any luck hunting them, talk to the local sherrfif department about getting put on the list of people that will pick up roadkill deer.
They will notify you when there is a fresh kill and give you the paperwork to legally posses it.

putting meat in my freezer is a major part of it but also another major part is being able to tell my wife i actually did something instead of spending a whole day in a tree freeezing my you no whats off
and coming home with nothing to show!!!!!! also kinda makes me feel good inside knowing that im providing it the harder like my ancestors did, than just going to the kroger meat section and picking up ol betsy if you know what i mean!!!!

Re: Lamb & Rice eat you're heart out! Raw diet feeders.
Lol I know that feeling Alisha finaly lets me out of the house without a hard time and i come home the first 3 days empty handed, I felt dumb everytime i walk in the door and she says "nothing huh ?"
lol. Finaly things fell in place though, and i was brining them home to show her first thing lol. Her dad is the self proclaimed Whitetail master so i felt like everytime i come home empty handed she was comparing me to her fathers hunting ability lol. I filled all my tags though! Just took me a few days. I'm not a dedicated deer hunter, but i do like to shoot them. Funny how coming home empty handed to you're wife or girlfriend can make you feel alot dumber than you're buddies ragging on you for filling there tags before you.

How does a raw diet compare price wise to dry food? I pay $23 for Diamond.

for me it's cheaper we get a nice deal from a butcher that helps out, and if i did'nt i would still pay the extra money b/c i'm happy with it. I bought 15lbs of chicken leg quarters for $6.88 i thought was pretty decent that will last me a week. How cheap can you get ahold of raw meat ? I was feeding diamond Hi energy when i made the switch to raw and diamond hi engery was a fairly decent dog food compared to others i have fed before.

Hey Shawn
I have fed Venison and Rice to my dogs as a supplement, and raw eggs on thier dry food as well.
My Vet reccomended it after one of my dogs was having Stomach issues following an infection. He knew I was a hunter, and that I had a healthy supply of meat, but he reccomended adding the Rice, and that I slightly cook it. I have read that raw meat is a source of vitamin C, but the more you cook it the vitamin is released. Any dog recovering from a sickness or infection can really benefit because its so good at building up the Red blood cells.
I have also used it to help a new momma's milk to increase with a large litter with very good results, the trick for me has been to slowly work it in thier diet to avoid the loose stools.
I process my own deer meat, so I keep alot of the trimmings for the dogs! The Backstraps are for ME!

this raw diet kinda brings a questine to mind about the chicken, as we all know they carrie just about every pariste their is in the book, such as saminila poisin the same goes for raw eggs, they will eat anything they can pick at, just wandering about this. GOD BLESS

when i feed the raw chicken-its usually the leg quarters(cheapest)=bone/skin=all of it.dogs can eat all the chicken bones they want/its the cooking of the bone that makes them hard and brittle.raw chicken bone is good for them when doing the raw diet
like shaun said--the research is out there.i recommend for those who wanna try it,send private messages to those who feed raw diets, exchange recipies, share facts of nutrition cause some folks beleive that dry food is best, all they wanna do is argue that their dry food is better,or the costs are to much.
i had a guy that said feeding raw diet(mine costs about .93a day)that feeding that to a kennel of 10 hounds would be to expensive.
my reply was he should care more about what he feeds his hounds to get more outta them, making 15 lb of raw once a week and freezing it into hamburger sized patties(10 ounce for mine)isnt to much work, dont cost to much, and gives me more time to put into my hounds.
well lets just say a big arguement broke out so now i stick with private messages with the subject

Re: Lamb & Rice eat you're heart out! Raw diet feeders.
I like to feed the chicken b/c the skin is a good source of fat & obviously the bones. I would'nt feed breasts or anything like that b/c the price and better reason yet most of the boneless breasts don't have the skin and chicken skin is a good source of fat. Like i said the hardest thing is making sure they get plenty of fat. They are eating raw meat so obviously there protein source is already as good as you can get compared to kibble, differences in the type of meat but they all pretty much top kibble protein. As far as madcatter talking about arguements i know exactly what you mean i got my head chewed off b/c i said i did'nt like pride dog food which i don't. Moorebeagles, i did'nt mean to ignore you're post lol I save the backstrap, tenderloin, and roasts for me! I also grind some of the rump up for my own burger! The stomach lining meat and rib meat & fat are all ground up usualy the front shoulder is shot up so what i can salvage out of the front shoulders goes to the dogs & neck, and all the tough lower leg muscle. We grind up the organs too liver (which i prbly won't anymore b/c grinds up NASTY and stinks, heart and lungs and we just stir it all up so they get allil bit of organic meat too. I will prbly just cut the liver up into strips for now on and freeze it and use it for treats like i do beef fat. LIver is just nasty ground up i don't know if anyone else has ever tried it, but i don't recommend it. I think i will always feed raw diet for now on, and madcatter is right it's alil more time and value you put into you're dogs preparing alil ground meat, and some rice or greens it makes you pay closer attention in how you're dogs are responding, and puts you more in tune with there well being as opposed to droppin 8oz of kibble into there bowl once a day. It's not too time consuming realy i've found alot of pride and pay off in doing it. just set something out to thaw in the fridge for the next day and heat up some veggies or drop a tblspn of yogurt in or what have ya. It's really not as bad as it sounds and it's gratifying for me just another way to spend more time with my dogs.
