I shoot very few rabbits a year.[less than 10] I try to run dogs 2-4 times a week.don't trial yet but may give it a try this year just for something different to do[not going to get to serious with that]but I love to watch and hear a nice rabbit race first and formost

I have to many dogs and not enough money to field trial. I just like to hear the dogs run. I never gun hunt over them. I use to go to a ARHA Hunt every weekend and max out all my credit cards and I never seen any of my dogs run. I would judge about every round. That was about the only way I could aford to enter any dogs. Took all my money for the credit cards. I had dogs that was entered in 57 hunts in a year once. To answer you question I would much rather go to a ARHA Hunt then to go gun hunting.
keep em runnin your friend in the bluegrass

During rabbit season my dogs get hunted alot...I don't do much of the shottin just handle the dogs mainly..i let the youngings shoot and bang at them. I run dogs alot and trial when I can. Just enjoy hearing a good race and shooting the breeze.

I enjoy gun hunting, love to eat those rabbits but I also like to hear the hounds run. I have been known to past up real good shots so the hounds can keep pounding that rabbit but when I go to Mississippi to hunt swamp rabbits I am into killing them more than just letting the hounds run and for those that have never hunted swamp rabbits they will give the hounds a work out. During the off season I run every chance I get and sometimes that may be 5--6 times a week and other times it may be 1--2 times a week according to my work schedule but mostly I adjust my running around my Church schedule.
Re: Are you more of a Field Trialer or Hunter.
I like field trialing better than hunting...i wouldnt kill over 10 with a gun in a seasons time...Killing rabbits infront of a pack doesnt turn me own as much as running against peoples dogs and diffirent bloodlines.
Re: Are you more of a Field Trialer or Hunter.
I TRIAL HARD ALL YEAR LONG I RUN MY HOUNDS HOPEFULLY AT LEAST 20 HOURS A WEEK, IF THERE ISN'T A TRIAL I RUN. I LIKE TO SHOOT MAYBE 4 RABBITS A YEARS, I DON'T TO SHOOT TO MANY DO TO EVERYTHING ELSE KILLING RABBITS SUCH AS COYOTES, HAWKS, AND FOXES FOR EVERY RABBIT I KILL I BET YOU THEY KILL 2 AND I WOULD RATHER JUST HAVE AS MANY RABBITS ALIVE TO RUN. BUT IF I HAVE A CHANCE TO GO TO A TRIAL OR TO GO HUNTING I'M GOING TO THE TRIAL MY DOGS GET OUT ENOUGH DURRING THE WEEK TO STAY IN GREAT SHAPE. I GUESS IF I COULDN'T GET THEM OUT DURRING THE WEEK I PROBABLY WOULDN'T TRIAL ON THE WEEKENDS TO GET MORE TIME. I GUESS I ALWAYS HOPE TO GET A LOT OF RUNNING IN AT THE TRIAL BECAUSE THAT MEANS YOU PROBABLY MADE IT A COUPLE ROUNDS BUT I GUESS ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU ENJOY.

gun dogs all the way. there ain't nothin better than seein them doggies get fired up twice as much after the gun goes off. but boy i sure do love to listen to good hot race. like to take my buddy's out that don't have hounds and show mine off while every body else fills up there rabbit sack. Just don't like to clean them enough to want to shoot more than one or two a week during season, but i definatly put enough in the freezer to last till next season

I run and hunt more than anything else. I always have to travel for a field trial around here, and IF the local club in N. Ky has a trial its always on the opening day of youth turkey, and again on the opener of the regular turkey season, which means you won't see me there. I'd rather be huntin, I can go run dogs just about anytime. I checked thier next trial is the first weekend in Sept, so I know I won't make that one either. As for shooting rabbits, lets put it this way I kill more deer and turkey every year than I do rabbits, but then again around this neck of the woods there are more deer, and turkey than rabbits. I'll hammer a bunny after a good run now and then, but I let the kids shoot them most of the time.
I'll keep My GOD, MY Freedom, My Guns, and My Money! You can keep the "CHANGE".

I wouls say I pleasure run the most; going several times a week and running year round.Next would be gun hunting and I don't shoot alot of rabbits put love to get one after a hard long run or if I've got a young dog along. Field trialing is the least important aspect of the sport for me. I enjoy going once in awhile to see how my dog will compare but mostly just for the fellowship and the opportunity to "talk dogs" with other like minded individuals.

I am a field trialer, Because I would rather just run rabbits than kill them. I have only killed one rabbit in the last three years and I don't plan on killing any rabbits in the future.
