Doug and I caught the hounds back in that swamp and it was super thick. There we were, two guys with nine hounds leashed and a hike through heavy cover in front of us.

I had crossed too many roads and lost track of my original compass reading and Doug was depending on me because he had lost his compass earlier in the week. I got on the radio and told Keith to hit the horn so I could get a direction, only we were to far away to hear it.

I led us off in what I thought was the right direction. We went a good distance before we decided we were going the wrong way. We turned around, backtracked to where we caught the hounds and continued in the same direction. Finally we got within hearing of Keith's horn and made it out.

It turned out alright but a GPS could have saved us a lot of work. I hope to have one next trip. Just the peace of mind would be nice.
Your right on that ;) I tromped around with Pete and was trying to keep the road located and he just wondered along aimlessly trying to get position on the hare. when I was good and turned around I asked him, "where's the truck" he pulled out this little yellow box, walked into a opening, held it out and said, "thata way"...darnest thing I ever seen and I want one...
Your trip out with hounds on lead sounds like a nightmare, I won't do. They come to hollar or horn, or spend the night with the devil. The deadfall is to bad to drag hounds hooking and choking for me.
There is something new learnt on every trip, we have alot of fun...

i am all for the earlier the better, the park opens at 8am, being a state park you need a permit to get in. I don't know where you are coming from but we can meet at my house and I'll drive if it would be easier, either way works for me.

Derrek do you have a permit yet or still dodging tickets?lol. Brian.

We turned loose at 8:30 am and ran almost nonstop til 1:30 pm. Had a couple big runs, lasted about an hour each. A couple smaller runs that lasted longer but didn't cover as much ground. Thanks to those that came, we had 5 handlers and 7 dogs. Some of us will be hitting it tomorrow, same time, anyone else interested give me a call. 517-719-1343. Brian.

I'll try and remember the camera tomorrow.

I'll be going to the Homer UKC trial on Saturday the 19th, but I'm in for Sunday. I took my camera last Sunday and left it in the truck, I guess I'm just not used to grabbing it. After the trackers, shockers, leads, water, cell phone, not to mention guns and ammo, and whatever else you have to carry, I keep forgetting. We had 3 young dogs and 3 older dogs, like Derrek said, tough to get one jumped, but ran one for 1 hour 50 min. It kept crossing the road in the park, giving the hounds fits. It was nice to see the younger hounds opening as they were crossing the asphalt. We had Cody from Fowlerville, Derrek from Owosso, Eugene from Laingsburg, and me from Owosso, with the six dogs. My number is 517-719-1343, anyone interested for next Sunday give me a call. Brian.

Good news, I have a full group going Sunday, better news, we are taking a group called "Hunters who care". They are hosting a wild game dinner and need 25 rabbits for the occasion. They are raising money to send care packages to Iraq. I've got some young first timers, and some not so young first timers, it should be a blast, I will not forget my camera this time.Brian.
