Nice job guys but I'll also echo what B. Trull stated I'd like to see that done on any of the State properties he mentioned. Several years ago when we started loosing private property to hunt we traveled to Glendale and hunted. I'll admit we did run a few rabbits down there but not enough to justify us driving a couple hours one way. We've tromped Hillenbrand numerous times and NEVER jumped a rabbit and I live only about a mile from it. We've also hunted several places on Minnehaha and never ran enough to justify the time and effort checking in, etc. Now, we can go to the property that we lease which is adjacent to state property and run ALL day. Since we have been members of the hunting club lease it has made a believer out of us that the pressure has a drastic impact on the hunting. When we go to the lease property we always see at least two vehicles parked in one or more of the parking areas on the state property and almost never hear any dogs running or any shooting. Granted some of these hunters may be bird hunters but we sure don't hear much if any shooting. If it weren't for having the lease property to hunt we would have no dogs as it was before we got back into them. I don't think the state puts much into the small game resources as the cover is great at Hillenbrand and many places on Minnihaha but the game numbers just aren't there.

Ive been to hildenbrand in the past and run several rabbits and killed some, granted that was several years ago. Ive also traveled to crosely and muscatutuck and ran and killed rabbits, in fact going back to muscatutuck this month with a buddy who lives close to there. Ive never hunted minehaha. The only benefit i see that glendale has over most state lands is it is very big and they mow. They mow strips for the pheasent hunters, to me it hurts the rabbits cause some of the strips are very thin leaving very little cover. i am close to glendale thus i hunt it more but let me tell you this, it gets hammered hard. id say its hunted more then any other state property at least for rabbits, Then again i havent hunted attabury either. Me and my boys and so many others that go with us are greatful for having this place close to us (38 min.) But beleive me we hunt hard, my dogs hunt hard and we jump and run rabbits, ask anyone who has gone with us, its not always a cakewalk. Glendale used to put out salt for bunnys but i havent seen any the last couple years so i dont know if they do it anymore or not.

I have hunted with jon and his boys for the last few seasons at glendale. we have probably hunted 15 times or so together out at glendale (we live about 45 minutes apart) and we average 4 rabbits a trip and there hasnt been a hunt yet that was a cake walk. we walk and walk and walk some more but it is definately a blast. i wouldnt mind giving some other public places a try but it is tough huntin when you are by yourself on public land. the rabbits are much harder to kill any public land. Id be up for going to some of these other public places to hunt if i could get some people to go with. public land hunting is tough but generally the runs are long and tough and i have a blast......keith

jon-kieth both have jump dogs that can flat run a rabbit, they could go to any of these places and kill rabbits,,,,,,,i have hunted with kieth to many times and i have hunted with jon 1 time, like i said you can take a jump dog anywhere and jump and run rabbits,,,,,,the only reason i dont run with jon alot is because we have 2 totally different speed of hounds,,,

nice looking pic there guys,,,,,,,

These are from Dugger and Minihaha.
But I agree that DNR needs to apply some resources to enhancing the rabbit population.
Good luck and Happy Hunting, Hunter

Most of the time, all I hunt is state land and AEP public land.
Problem with public hunting is everyone kills everything and leaves no seed.
