Nothing wrong with a beagle built like a minature bird dog. I have a bitch that is built just like him and she hunts all day and has no quit.
Built for endurance is a good thing. Much better looking beagle than those ole bench beagles with short crooked legs. JMHO

I'll take em built like Blaze anyday.
Reggie and Blaze both are nice hounds that anyone would like to own. They have both accomplished more in a couple years, than a majority of dogs will do in a lifetime.

Hmmm... what would we call Pointer/Beagle cross.... a Peagle, or a Bointer... hope he doesn't get a nose full of quail scent in the middle of a hot race.

I wish I had a bird dog with that kind of talent hehe I would be honored to own a dog with 1/4 the talent and abilities of either of these two hounds I don't really think he looks like a bird dog he is definatly in superior shape looks like he could run for a week on 2 foot of snow both dogs are definatly in superior conditioning with tons of talent

I have a ten month old female out of Reggie and Ross's Big Bad Blossum. She is a pretty nice hound. Good nose, good jump dog and lots of hunt. So I am happy with her and it shows Reggie is throwing good pups.

I also saw Reggie in the Bandits II he was quite impressive. I reccomend the tape. He is a nice looking hound with good control and very nice speed. A lot of guys say trial dogs don't make good rabbit hounds. Well all I can say is you could kill more rabbits over that one dog than a whole lot of packs I have seen.

As far as Trailblazer I have not seen him run, but I am sure he is a very fine hound, you dont accomplish as much as he has without being a fine hound.

Steve Mikkelson wrote:This comparison of Reggie and Blazer is not so simple. THey are really different styles. It's like comparing Cal Ripken to Roger Clemens. Sure they have their simularities, but they are vastly different in my opinion. I think Kevin and Brandon would agree.

Thanks Bev for the mentioning of Trails. Trails and Viagra are as different as Reggie and Blazer.

Before a statement regarding any dogs performance is dealt out as gospel, here are a couple things to consider:

1. Judge the hound based on a a variety of running conditions. Basically see the hound work in both bad and good scent conditions, cold and hot weather, snowy January and dry July, SPO, solo, Large Pack. See it run with rough wild hounds and see how it runs against the best hounds.

2. To win as much and as often as these hounds have won, is a testment in itself. These hounds are put on the ground against some of the best competition today, and they have proven themselves. Now ask yourself what style of dog did it take to win that day, and I bet you can answer your own question on the strenghts of these fine hounds.

3. Know that every dog has it's day and every dog goes through injuries and sickness. Some dogs never see a trial or hit the ground when they are injuried or sick, but yet some continue trial their hound. When you made your observation about a practicular hound did you consider this?

Reggie and Blazer have been on the ground together. Just because one won that praticular event really does not necessarily mean that that hound had the better attributes to out perform the other hound day in and day out. The dog had it's day. Could the other hound been running with a strained shoulder? These two dogs were put on the ground a lot, and just like any athlete that plays a entire season, they performed through all kinds of various muscle strains / injuries. They are both warriors with the heart with all want.

I have plans to breed to both of these hounds myself, but they will be bred to praticular bitches not any bitch. You can't go wrong breeding to anyone of these hounds unless you fail to understand their strong traits to determine the best one to improve the running style of your bitch. Again, they are both fine hounds, but in my opinion very different.
EXCELLENT POST :!: :!: :!: Very well spoken .

Trailblazer

Post by Chris Spall »

I judged Trialblazer at White Water and gave him a win. I've never seen Reggie run. Trailblazer is close and clean, he didn't get rattled under pressure, he didn't bark out of place, he didn't get caught out of place, he maintained a high level of concentration, he didn't stand around he stayed busy, he showed enough independence to NOT be sold on a liar, he would drive a line with confidence and was my high check hound for the day. Going into the winner pack, Trailblazer was not in my top 3 hounds. Trailblazers ability to maintain his composure won him the trial after the other 3 faultered with the increased pressure. That day, Trailblazer was everything that i look for in a hound and obviously what several other judges look for as well. I'll add this, it poured the rain all day and those big males ran so hard all day long that they cured me of judging big males again. I've never been so worn out.
Once upon a time, a man asked a girl " Will you marry me?" The girl said " NO." and the guy lived happily ever after and ran his dogs as much as he wanted to.

reggie:

high octane, hard hitting, dog that is not happy unless he has the front, super hard hitting out of the check,a lot of hunt and footspeed,he is a lil more high maintenance when it comes to keepin him inside the lines,i aint sayin he is rough by know means, but you ack him heavy over and overmthe competitive drive to get the front takes over and he will do whatever he has to do to get the front.

blaze:

true rabbit hound,a gun hunters dream, super clean all day every day, some describe him as not real flashy,i say that he is just the real style dog midwest should be promoting,he is a line dog will slot up on the line, but still mve his way through the packto get the front, yet is is content with 2nd or 3rd,but he is a dog, that when he leaves the check, and the other hounds slot up behind him,he can get out front and stay there holding it,not overshooting every turn, and just runnin the rabbit right.

some may not agree with my opinion of the two,but this is jmho.
