They may get more "rabbit smart" however the speed..nose..etc is as good as it gets. Never known of a dog just magically developing extreme foot or developing a big nose. It is like he said..if they haven't had the groundtime then that is a different story. I put alot of time into dogs before they are a year old.

If I put in the time..they gotta show me something.

I'm not sure if pups or young dogs learn more by running with smart old dogs or just by trial and error on their own. They could, such as where to start a rabbit or hare, how to pick a long double, dealing with RR tracks, roads, bare spots, etc. but they also could learn to just stand and wait for the old hound(s) to get them out of trouble. I see way too much of that in today's hounds and nothing will make me get rid of one faster than standing around watching on a loss.

I am sure that my dogs can run better now, than when they were two years old. At two, I like to see a dog hunting hard, and not doing much wrong, but I dont expect them to blow away a pack of four or five year olds. I have never owned a superstar two year old, and I envy those of you who do.

Hey Pat, Pike Ridge Anna May is running at four months old with the big dogs. When I run Belle and Blue I just let her play around and sniff weeds and chase bugs but low and behold she got tired ot that and decided she wanted to run rabbits. She joined in last week running with her future pack mates and she jumped her first rabbit with the pack and even got a check. She is too small to take the front but has great line control. She barks every breath and holds her own for a young hound. Time to start solo running her. I couldn't be more happy. Looks like that SPO X Hare hound cross is working out. Doesn't hurt to have Mark V Ace... and Turbo as grandsires on the bottom and IFC Wild Creek Licorice (Thorn Gap Bad Jack) on the top. :D I AKC registered her last night online - she made the cut. Thanks for making this cross and giving me this little gal. I owe you one buddy.
