For a man that simply wants to rabbit hunt and not trial then AKC papers are no big deal. If you want to trial and consistently sell dogs and get a competitive price for them then AKC papers are a must. The bottom line is keeping your options open. As long as the dog has AKC papers you can trial any format and get a competitive price for pups. Doesn't mean the dog is any better, it is just a stamp of approval that carries a lot of weight.
