Every dog I own ended up getting it.
The last two just got over it last week.

My two trial dogs were over it in less than a week.
My outdoor dog took over 2 weeks to shake it.

There are so many strains and mutations of this virus that no one vaccination can cover it all. Its the same as humans who take a flu shot each year. Those shots cover the newest most virulent form of flu but, you can still get sick from another virus. KC is airborne and easy to catch and usually is nothing more than a doggie cold. It can become fatal though through secondary infection so, the few times I've had a case here I did use antibiotics. I don't bother with the vaccinations as they only last about 6 months and chances are you could bring it home anyway.

I remarked how good looking a guys dog was and reached down and petted it at a trial a couple of three weeks ago. He then told me it had kennel cough. I went straight in and washed but that was as good as I could do at the time. Nearly all 15 of mine have had it now, and I'm sure them that haven't will.

1 cap full of bleach in the water does nothing for kennel cough.
It does sterilize the water and other viruses and bacteria in the water.
Bleach is 17% chlorine. Your tapwater is about 0.0002% chlorine.
So a capful is basically taking the dogs water up to about the same level of chlorination.

Kennel cough is the flu which is airborne virus (Canine Parainfluenza)
I am not sure if the Bordetellosis is air borne or water borne though.

Just like people, when you are around someone who has the flu you will be exposed to the virus. There are things you can do to minimze your exposure (washing hands, keeping hands away from face) but you still be exposed to it.

I saw someone post on this board about pouring a capful of bleach in the dog mouth. You will injure or possibly kill your dog.

Zuk is on target, I have been putting a cap in the water buckets for years, the idea is to kill parasites, bacteria etc. It didn't stop mine from getting the K-C earlier this summer or cure them.

I believe it IS important to imunize against Kennel caugh. Especially with a dog you are traveling with to shows or hunts. Part of the problem of spreading it around when your dog is not imunized and has it is that they may have it several days before showing symptoms. You are spreading it before you even know you have it. If the dog never gets the illness he will be less likely to spread it. The imunization is not 100% but it is still worth the few dollars at least for the dogs you are traveling with.

Even if your hounds are current on shots they still can contract Kennel Cough!!!! The KC shot is not 100% effective but it does increase your odds of NOT getting it. It is just like humans and the flu shot.
