What do you all pay for a 50 lb. bag of Pro Plan? I just found a new dist. near me and I can get Black Gold 26/18 50 lb. (black bag) for $16 tax inc.

I just go to pete youngs once a month and scoop up his stool from his dogs and feed my culls. And between times when its to slick to get there i fed black gold , black bagpete young wrote:I have never tried Black Gold, but it would take a lot to get me to switch from Purina. I feed Pro Plan to the dogs i am running hard, but feed hi pro to the others. i like both. The pro plan is the best i have ever fed.

When the moment of truth arrives, the point of preparation has passed.

Ronnie - called you last night, left a message on your cell, your house line was busy. Dogs seem to be doing pretty good on the BG 26/18, but I just started feeding it a week ago so it may be to early to tell.

It seems like every time I switch feed my hounds do real well on it at first and then look poor after 10-20 bags. Years ago I fed Purina Hi-pro and swore by it. Dogs looked good, a lot of energy, more stool, nice coats. Went bad. Poor coats, couldn't keep weight on. Switched foods and had better results.
Switched to Diamond with same results after 15-20 bags. (Tried all of Diamonds premium feed.) The hi-energy (purple bag) in my opinion was the worse. The green and yellow premium was the best. Switched after the problems Diamond had.
Switched to Black gold in the black bag. I told everyone that I talked to that it was the best feed that I have fed in a long time...until recently, the dogs are starting to lose their "glow" after 15-20 bags. (Can't keep weight on 3 of my 5 dogs.)
I do not claim to be an expert, but from my experiences, it seems like you have to switch feed every once in a while to keep them looking sharp. Also every dog is a little bit different. Some can stay on feed for a long period with great results. Some do not. I have one hound in particular that I think would shine on bread and water.
I will probably go back to black gold because it is a good feed and less expensive, but I think I am going to try pro-plan or maybe hi standard for now. I have only used it a couple of times when other feeds at the time I was feeding were unavailable.

we don't have black gold here, so i have been feeding big red 24/20 and have no complaints, other than they went up 5.00 on the bag, now i'm looking for another brand.
i have tried hi-pro, pro plan, and both give my hounds the runs, and looked bad, i feed all types of Diamond and like Schag wrote after 10 bags back to the runs, weight loss, poor looking hounds. Out of the selection the pro plan was the best but i cannot feed 8 hounds and pay 25.00 bag for dog food and feed my family, so thats out the window.
i have talked to a lot of people and read up on the ol'roy lamb and rice and i am considering on going to it.
has anyone used it with success or is it like all the others?
