Western Ky is more rolling hills. Eastern KY is mountains. Either way, ya just can beat the folks.

You are welcome here anytime if ya need a place to stay while you are looking around. My door is always open to you and your wife.

Jimbo I'm going to get that way sooner or later. I'm afraid once I get there I won't leave. Once I get this back problem taken care of I'll roam a little further. When I do arrive, the silver bullets will be in hand.

Hazard ARH has a psych. unit. There is another about an hour from Hazard. It is at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.

I live in Manchester, which is + or - halfway between them. Get it "halfway"?

Come on down anytime. find ya a place and stay. Maybe the IQs of bothe states will rise. ;-)

Steven Segal did a movie about going in there, kinda scared me. Might work out like one of those "What's in YOUR wallet" commercials. Just kidding ky guys so don't do a "Deliverance" on me.

No, was Patty Duke in that one? Anyway the Segal movie was "Fire Down Below" and sorta lacking in believabilty. You can find a lot of info on old movies and TV on this site

Parts of Kentucky are nice. If I didn't have roots so deep in WV, I would probably live there. It is like WV with an economy.
Eastern KY is just like southern WV. It is the coal fields, it is a poor area, and doesn't have a lot to offer.

I grew up in the coal fields in WV. When I was a teen I said, "Every time I move - I am moving farther away from this place."
I still miss certain aspects of the area (large coal and timber tracts that had unrestricted access), but am happier where I am now.

What part of NY are you from?

Boy knew i didn't have much but hadn't realized i was poor, thanks for pointing that out to me.Actually life is what you make of it wherever it is,whether it be WV or Ky.You ever been to Pikeville Silver?Pretty Big place and seem to have quite a bit to offer, but hey less rabbit hunters the better, means more for me.
Coal probably is our biggest moneymaker, guess that makes me one of the lucky ones since i work for one of the biggest reproducers of coal in the great state of KY.Life is what we see thru our own eyes, and what we make of it!

I miss eastern ky everyday. I guess I will be a KY boy all my life. I like it in the central part of the state where Im at, running grounds are just hard to come by, those strip mines sure spoil a man. Growing up down in Pike county, yes there are some poor areas, but I agree with Lynn, you gotta take what you got and make something out of it.

I see lots of the folks running at the fun runs and trials are from Kentucky. Can anyone tell me about Hazard? I have a recruiter calling me all the while wanting me to do nursing in Hazard or Harlan I think they said and also east Tennessee. Are there prisons or psychiatric hospitals there? Also, are there any more fun runs coming up? I may have some time to kill here pretty soon.

Good luck partner, might be different for you being on a contract. I love the state and I was trying to relocate down there on my own, Cambellsville area, 4 or so yrs ago. Kentucky is a great state espically for beagle folks . I couldnt suck up the paycut from RN wages in the indy metro area. Price of land has gotten unreasonable now in the Bluegrass state also.
IMHO
