I too use Eukanuba Premium Performance becuase I keep a small kennel. If I owned over 4 dogs I wouldn't use it due to price..When you run your dogs exceptionally hard or in extreme cold conditions this food pays for itself..I want my first ingredient to be a meat, not byproducts or corn and I don't want corn as the 2nd choice either, I prefer a meat then a meat byproduct then a corn becuase the primary protien is meat which is easily digestable, my stool clean up is small and dark and I can go a few days between clean up now , before i had to clean everyday..The other myth is that too much protien hurts kidneys,, well it is actually harder on their kidneys using low end protiens because the good protiens are used and easily broken down whereas the low end causes strains.. Also the byproducts are not the same!!!! Call your feeds company and get an explanation of their Byproducts ingredients versus the Byproducts of Eukanuba and you will see why the price is higher.."You get what you pay for".. Eukanuba's Byproducts are of higher quality than most other brands Meat or Chicken main ingredients....

Wasn't it reported on this very web site some months ago, that IAMS/EUK are big backers of PETA and contribute to their cause (eliminating hunting and sporting dogs)?

I've been feeding Pride for 5 years now. I use the Chicken and rice stuff now and like it alot so do the hounds. The 24-20 and 26-18 are fine feeds also and I'd say the rest is also. Makes my hounds look good and they have plenty of get up and go.

To those of you feeding Pride, Joy, or Black Gold, etc:

How many dogs are you feeding and how long does it take to go thru a bag (indicate size) of food?

I feed 11 and I go thru 50lbs in approximately 2 1/2 weeks.

I feed six dogs. My males get 2 cups a day and the females get 1 1/2 cups a day. It takes me a little over a month to go through a 50 lb bag.

MAN THAT'S A LOT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR, RUNNING OR NOT!!! We give no more than a cup, either sex, this time of year. We use Diamond Performance. We figure since Diamond had their little problem and the FDA went in to investigate them, they're at least one of the best now. Also we figure the FDA will be keeping a eye on them for some time. Who here believes what happened to Diamond won't happen to their favorite dog food? If memory serves me right, a very well known a repected pet food company caused many more death in horses than Diamond had with dogs. Don't think it can't happen to you!

I highly doubt the threat of FDA oversight will amount to much. I've been a meat and poultry inspector with the USDA for 26 years so I know about FDA and their inspections. How much FDA oversight do you think is performed on the food products under FDA inspection that YOU eat or the medications produced by the large drug companies that you put into your and or your children's mouth? I can tell you but I don't think you really want to know but I can tell you with certainty that in this day and age of budget cuts/ restrictions a dog food manufacturing operation is WAY down on the list of priorities of any type of government inspections, say like little to NONE! Why would the government put inspectors into dog food manufacturing facilities when they are cutting the ones inspecting you and your childrens own food supply and turning those inspections over to the very industry that we are supposedly regulating? Talk about the fox guarding the hen house and I doubt that fox is the least bit worried about that federal inspector putting an end to his getting fat!

Ok im going to put in my two cents worth. Over the past couple years ive been trying to find that one dog food that good for the dogs and me and im a firm beleaver that a good dog food regardless of the price will pay off in the end over a cheap food. like i asked a man once who paid $7 a bag for some cheap junk how much are you feeding each dog and he replied this small coffe can each and when i run them hard maybe a little more. well at that time i was feeding purina one lamb and rice and i told him i feed 1 1/2 to no more than 2 cups even when running hard and he told me i was crazy for paying $30 a bag well i told him do the math and look at what i had to cleanup. very little well a few weeks went by and i ran into this old gentleman again he came up and shouck my hand and said thanks. i was like what for he said i finally get it he said i sit down and figured it up he said it costed me $50 more a month to feed the cheap stuff and was cleaning crap from my kennels every day he said he switch to the purina one and his hounds have never looked better. so back to the post at hand. i tried the pride 26/18 for about 5 months and i wasn't happy with the results at all and i wasn't even running my hounds bout about twice a week when i was feeding it and had to feed 3cups or more a day to each hound. switched to dog chow and love the results and if im running more than 3 days a week of if im running hard in the winter i feed purina one. now this is only from my exsperiance

Crew Chief I feed my dogs rabbit tracks to make them happy. As long as they are entertained by the scent of rabbits, that keeps me entertained, and I provide them a balanced feed and shelter. That's a pretty good partnership, IMO.
I feed Diamond and they seem to like it.

Roger that on the rabbit tracks Gus!!!! Thats why I ain't on much any more on the weekends... The way Ole PETA HAMMERS IAMS on their website about IAMS's policy of testing I'd hate to belive IAMS gives em much $$$$$.. As far as HSUS goes it would be a Feed companies dissaster not to help them out!!!! Dad Gum have you guys seen some of the sorrrrry conditions they rescue animals from???? Part of our job is to convince folks that our hunting hounds AIN't A LIVIN IN THOSE CONDITIONS,,, Although I'll bet thats happening in some locations!!!! Well hope you had some good runs over the weekend, we sure did and thats the spirit,, forgive Ole Diamond for a KILLING ALL THEM DOGS!!!!!

I'm not gonna doubt any bodies word about how their dogs react to a specific brand or type of feed as I'm a firm believer that dogs are just like people when it comes to being maintained on a certain feed. I have 4 beagles out in the kennel plus a cocker spaniel in the house and my cousin has 5 beagles in his kennel plus a huge Great Pyreneese that ALL are fed the PRIDE 21/17. My beagles get a cup per day and the cocker gets only 1/2 cup and she's ready to butcher. I will guarantee you they are all fat as hogs but one female of my cousins and she will not put on weight for nothing. I can also tell you that I have had the same experiance with Purina and won't feed it right along with Diamond. Now, I'm not knocking any feed but merely saying that each and every dog is as different to feed as people are different to what they eat so the person feeding them will have to try different brands to see how their dogs do on what feed.

wardog i get what your saying i have some that can live on pure junk dog food but what im saying about the purina is that its the only one that all of my dogs have done well on as for the pride 26/18 out of the 12 beagles i had at the time when i was feeding it only about 2 did good on it the others at way to much.

Well warddog, I quess I don't know much about the FDA. I only work at Eli Lilly and Elanco. I guess the FDA doesn't do much here either, eh! The FDA has been at Diamond due to the deaths of some animals. If any company wants to stay in business very long in this part of the world, they should welcome someone like the FDA to clear their name. Too much business can be lost on something like this. If I remember, Diamond volunteered the recall. And if I futher remember, only just a few dogs died, not the hundreds that people talked about. And what about the very well known and respected pet food company that killed many horses? You failed to talk about that. I guess kick a big company when it's down right?
