cornerstone, who owns the sire of the litter, where is he located? I am looking for a dog to breed to my female this summer. What kind of hunt does he have? I am looking to breed to a very good jump dog.

Swing, If all I get is rabbit dogs I would be happy. Anything else is just gravy. By the way Viper is starting to come on strong and I will start trialing him again this fall.
So, all you care about is how hard hunting the pups are? I think you've got it backwards.
You should be regarding the hunt as the "gravy". What needs to take precedence over everything is long term health and temperament. I know guys breeding spectacular hounds (from the Turbo/Branko line) that are dropping dead at 5, 6, 7 years old. These were the same breeders who would swear to their puppy buyers that their lines are healthy and their dogs never need to go to the vet. You better take off the rose colored glasses and look long and hard at the can of worms you're opening. I have experience with Branko lines, especially Heli Prop & Turbo, and getting what you think will be the ultimate rabbit dog is not going to be worth it. Inbreeding is invaluable but you've got to know the health defects in the line and the temperament issues had by similar close breedings before you pair the dogs.
I'll tell you waht SHOULD be the gravy on a good rabbit dog. Once you've got a line and hounds with solid temperament, health, the icing on the cake is all the aspects that come together to produce a hard hunting hound. Health and temperament aren't optional. They come first and everything else is a bonus. My 2 cents.

Maybe you are looking at this different than I am or backwards from how I see it. In what you brought forward as my quote it say's that if I get more than a hunting dog it would be gravy. To me a hunting dog is a complete dog, but not trial quality. Hunt is very important in a hunting dog though.

I do see where you and I are differant in what we think needs to be done to breed a litter of healthy rabbit dogs. And I am sure I am not the first to go about getting some foundation stock for a small kennel this way. This is what I like and I do not see me as being harmful to beagles as a breed.

My Turbo male and female are both 5 years old and in good health. I am sure that any line out there has problems, but for now I have not seen them in my dogs. I would never say not to take a pup to the vet, that they were naturally trash proof, early starters or trial quality @ 8 weeks old.

For just the sake of 2 cents I would add this. Thank you for the opinion and I do feel people breed for the hound that they want and I do not care if they want to buy this or not, because everyone who contacted me about this litter got the same response. (Not for sale at this time) I can see that you have drawn your own conclusions on Heli-prop forward, and I do not want to upset you by disagreeing with this. What I would like to do is find out how you got there. I am not in the habit of changing what I start and I will not now, but all my dogs come up from Heli-Prop. So I am always looking for information.

If anyone thinks this is about making money on pups. I barely make a break-even on my pups (150M & 175 F and that was vet checkedon an FC Stud) & every stud that I have done with my dogs has been free.( all they do is a brucellosis test on there dog and I pay it on mine) I want to see this line keep going.

There is still the part about rose colored glasses and if this is to imply that I have not spent my time researching the breeding that I have spent the last year planning. You would be wrong. If one was to say I have tunnel Vision or that at this point I am Turbo blind. Well Maybe

Like I said you seem to have alot of information that may help and I really hope this was not just a Branko/ Turbo attack. Pm me a # and I will call.

I don't like to drop names, but relatively well known breeder in another area and two local breeders in my neck of the woods had hounds from Sock It To Me, Heli Prop & Turbo drop dead in their kennels at realtively young ages. No one had parasites (ticks, worms) that could account for the symptoms, and many of the hounds had no symptoms at all. Also, a few years ago, not one of these breeders, but another who got his foundation stock from one of them, was having a problem with seemingly healthy pups (we're talking under 6 weeks old) just drop dead, no symptoms, no parasites, worms. Apparently it was very common for this breeder to have pups and occasionally a young adult dog (3, 4 years) drop dead with no apparent cause. All these breders had one thing in common. their hounds were very closely Branko bred, in particular, with a few crosses of Turbo Powered by Prop.

Really still never told me much or gave an area to start any research. Breeder names, Dog names or anything would be great.

seems like a cross thats worth a shot. i have noticed in a few trials that some turbo dogs are a bit mouthy. i had the pleasure to gunhunt with turbo in the mid to late 90's and ran with talkabout blueberry alot. two very awsome hounds. i liked bluberry as much as turbo. good luck!
