Bloodline Ratings

The Patch bred hounds that are bred up North have alot of foot, I believe most guys down south want a little better control in theirs and so patches down there might not be as fast, but have better line control. This is what I have seen or heard. Mike Yates bought hounds from Willet Randall that were a little slower with tighter line control, to bring down south for cottontail. You'll still see this tendency today, although I'm sure there are some exceptions. The large majority of patch hounds I have seen/owned were very fast, but still had pretty good control.

That is one of the first things that turned me onto the Patches was their speed. I haven't seen very many conservative patch dogs though. Most are wide open sometimes too wide open but like marr24 said most of my dogs come from Pennsylvania.

WVa Rabbit hunter & Preacher, you are going to have to buy your dogs from up North & quit buying them from me to get any speed. These southern things I got, can't fall out of a tree.... I guess thats why I breed these dogs to their cousins cause I am in the South. ha ha ha ha
Just playing,

P.S. I can't rate various breed as a whole because I have seen Grade & Patch only & some are awesome & some ain't worth killing.

I've seen lots of different bloodlines in the field trials , but I've never thought a trial ( 1 hr) running showed me the true guts of a hound. You can see hunt and desire but thats about all.IMO So I'll grade what I own.
. Patch
---a. hunt/desire -10
---b. line control -8.5 - 9
---c. conformation -10
---d. check work - 9.5
---e. speed -9.5
