I just got home from work and could not wait to check for replies. Been thinking about it all night! I would like to thank all for the warm gestures and support. I am not surprised at the response because I have come to realize some mighty fine people call this site home, and it is a good feeling to be amongst friends. My search begins! As I said it will be a little while before I make the move so I have some time to check things out. I want this move to be my last, at least while my feet are still on old terra firma. Those places mentioned are all on my list of possibilities. Kentucky however seems to be calling my name. I was searching real estate listings in Kentucky and I liked the looks of the terrain. I also thought it was some sort of sign when I did a search of employment in the area around Liberty and up popped my line of work. First thing! Not just nursing, but my field of specialization. Whew!!! Freaked me out!!! And it has always been my desire to use my skills in a small rural area where I can feel I make a difference. I think I suffer the Doc Holiday...Patch Adams...syndrom! Not being one for cruises and the like I feel rich when the bills are paid, the kids are fed, the wife is happy and I can convince the misses to put the HONEY Do list on the back burner so I can go run my hounds. And by me keeping more of my hard earned cash I can do the first three things on the list which will get me more of the fourth thing on the list. ;)
Thanks for the ecouragement and kind words,
NYH
P.S. I cannot play the banjo but I do strum a pretty good guitar! And can even play DUELING BANJOS. And my singing ain't to bad either ....sort of a deep bawl that goes into a fast chop when I'm excited. At least it don't sound like a "squeel like a pig".... ....

I thought I had that changed in time before too many read it!

All in kidding, as I assure you Southern Hospitality is alive and well as Alabama Swamper demonstrated so well and I have tried to also on several occasions.

I do not know how old you are, but you are wise for any age in the understanding of what happiness really is. Good luck on your move and the folks in Kentucky are getting an asset and its a loss for the rest of us.

Hope you will still be on this board as your wit and prayers are needed in these trying times we are in.

My Daddy always told me that Yankees are like hemeroids. If they come down and go back they aint too bad but if they come down and stay down thats when you have trouble out of them.

Just kidding could'nt pass that one up.

guess you wont be needing that mouthy hound in KY . let me know ill swim the lake and come get her. you know which one i mean. she in heat yet ?. i know exactly what you mean. not sure if you can get away from it . i used to think VT was best state anywhere. . we have so many new laws every year . more posted land .more taxes , more of everything most of it bad. i think thers almost as many hilbillies up north as down south . and its the same everywhere, the city people makin the laws the country folks having to live with it. city folk move to country than try to make it just like the city. if it would only snow down south like it does here id move south with you. i like the snow . it has been a tough winter though and i got to admit i dont like that 30 below stuff at all. anyways you dont want to take a chance on that mouthy hound getting snake bit. arron in ny you can run cat coyote hare bear with hounds you cant kill a bear with hounds but they have training season and can even bait in training . and i think maybe can run more hounds at a time than we can . not sure about that. dont go braggin NH up no cat season there but is the only state i think where you can hunt fisher. thats worth something. they wont let me hunt bear there. so im still mad at NH and dont even stop when going to maine. you southern guys better keep quiet youll have it flooded down there with yankees. .... pete .

NYH, if you are thinking of coming here, let me help. You can run anything with legs here except black bear (protected, trying to get established), elk (open gun season by lottery) and whitetail deer (I see roadkill every day). We had the coldest winter in 20 years this year and had probably 3-4 weeks with snow on the ground. Temps got into single digits several nights, but rarely were less than 20 during the day. If you are a nurse, some of the rural hospitals pay up to $5000 signing bonus for rn's. Wages probably are not what you are accustomed to, but after church on Sunday you can feed your family at a decent sit-down eatery for less than $20 for 4. AND we chase rabbits year-round. Bring your snake chaps and tick repellent. Ticks from April to August, snakes on any warm day. I have seen one rattlesnake in the field since I have been here (30+ years) but a truck bed full of copperheads. You might even take up fishing for smallmouth bass. We have thousands of miles of smallmouth streams you can canoe (one of my favorites) COme and see us.

Pete, no bragging here, NH has its issues, and were holding onto hunting with hounds by a thread. I had read in a hunting magezine recently about this seasons bear forcast and it said that NY did not allow dogs. I assumed the rest followed, my bad. You can come down and hunt bear in NH anytime you want. I would love to own them hounds for a few days.

Hey Hillbilly , you really may want to think about coming on down here with the other hillbillys alot of those Kentucky people are just brairhoppers and not full hillbillys. You are welcome as you can be in Tennessee, but that gate that welcomes you in will be left open for you to leave if you start complaining and tring to change things .. LOL We have rabbits, squirells, grouse, quail, groundhog, racoon, coyote, opossom, bullfrogs, dove, deer, turkey and lots of freshwater fish. Check of the TWRA website. WE do have our problems we have people like --- Well I better not go there. haha

its ok arron im really not that mad at nh . i like there license plate . live free or die. can hunt fishers, still can rabbit hunt when vt is closed. i cant hunt bear in maine with hounds either unless i have a guide. i bet a lot of beaglers would be surprised at all the politics involved in hunting bear with hounds. dont know from one year to the next if ill be able to hunt them. all these northern states could use some hilbillys running things for awhile. . its above freezing this am . id like to know when was the last time that happened here. october i think. pete

Sounds like there are some nice places to live!
Rosewood.... ..funny stuff..Hemorhoids=Yankees...  you better be careful not to become friends with me cause you know what hemorhoids like to hand around...   You see even Yanks have a sense oh humor.
Pete...I plan to keep my ole cold nose hound close to me. But the next time she comes in heat I plan to breed her again to my male Blazer and you still have a pup coming if I have to drive there to deliver it! That is if you still want one out of this faulty cull!
To all the rest of my beagle buddies....no matter where I settle in the future it will certainly put me much closer to those who share my passion for good hounds and good times. And it will put me within driving distance of Y'ALL (hey I'm learnin already.. ;). Now if I can just get over my snake phobia!  I plan on getting me a new pair of Wicks bibs and see if they will make them X-tra thick  and a new pair of high top boots...and..some Gators for my ankles..and maybe some snake repellant...and a mongoose to carry in my pocket..as good measure.. . Why does there always have to be a hitch? There you have snakes and tics. Here we have Political Rats and Governmental Blood Suckers. I'll take the tics and snakes! ;)
Peace'

Ny Hillbilly,

If you can take some heat and isolation, head to Texas. Country living there was mighty cheap, albeit not quite for me. Vehicle registration was nothing, no state income tax, etc. When I moved back to KY from Texas, there was a big financial shock. My parents still live in KY but have been embittered towards the state government for years because of excessive taxation. And there still seems to be a state budget problem every year, too. I'm sure it's nothing like NY (I've lived in NY City, too), but it's not a financial paradise.

I'd still live in KY if I could get the same bang-for-my-buck that I have in Indiana, and it took a lot for me to become a "Hoosier!"

Hey Boomer,
Maybe I'm getting slap happy cause I just got out of work and it's late but I thought of something. How about this for an add campaign for Indiana "Make the move to Indiana, a good place to stretch a buck as well as your hounds legs. Hoosier daddy now!" Sorry Boomer I couldn't help myself. By the way I ran a couple of times at Three Rivers Beagle Club. Great running and great people! I would love to go again and chase those rabbits that cover ground like whitetail deer.
Peace,
NYH

NY Hillbilly,

I think they're now calling it, "the Crossroads of America." For years when I was growing up, the slogan was "Wander Indiana." All of the license plates had "Wander" written on them, so it looked like everyone with Indiana plates was from "Wander County."

Sorry Bev, I know you've lived in Indiana a long time. Nothing personal!
