I remember a dog named Smooth Running Buck who I was told went from open to Grand in PP in less than 10 trials. I think he was for sale in 2003 and he was a young, young dog and a Grand Champion. A guy named Etroy bought him.
Maybe some of you guys remember this dog.....Glomski, you remember Buck?
Catch you all later,
Randy
BTW........Didnt Elwood have a dog that was a UKC dual Grand Champion before it was a year old........or am I mistaken

What I was getting at was, they promote that dog like he can walk on water. I wouldnt trade anything I got in my pen for him and some of mine arent 4 months old.
And I dont say mine are anymore than rabbit dogs, but they do know the front of the track from the back.

I judged Sugar Ray and I thought he looked SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But I guess someone in the gallery saw a lot more than I did that day. Someone usually does somehow. This dog probably got 70% of the checks that day and controlled the front end. He saved the rabbit several times in the swampy areas or the race would have been over. He did make a few mistakes, but so did every dog there at one time or another. I don't forget all the good things a dog has done just because of one or two mistakes. I can give a detailed description of every hound that placed that day. 1st place: good hunt, strong nose, very aggressive working a check, powerful out of a check, strong & fast on the drives with good control, extra mouth at times, but nothing too extreme; 2nd place: good hunt, very clean mouth, fast; not enough nose to win that day, but a nice dog for sure, 3rd place: medium speed, good hunt, picked some super checks, but had extra mouth at times, good dog but probably not FC quality. 4TH PLACE: good hunt, medium speed, close check work, extra mouth at times, but not as bad as third place hound, needed more confidence coming out of a check; seemed to hesitate, good rabbit hound though; NBQ: good hunt , fast, but a little wide in the check area, also a little tight mouthed at times; probably has the talent to be a winner with some solo work; great potential. ANY QUESTIONS???????

I have been getting some pm messages and here is 3 dogs that some said did good, maybe someone knows more about these dogs:
1. Green River Traveler (Harrison's Spec x Green River Frosty) in SPO finished in 7 trials, believe to be out of Ohio in the 90's owned by Bennie Prater ????
2. Budd's Little Hokie High finished in 8 trials SPO ??? in 96 (FC Hidden Hill Lucky x Belle's Neck Molly) that's all they knew.
3. INT. FD. CH. Wild Creek Licorice (FC Thorn Gap Bad Jack x Maple Hollow Ginger Snap) youngest fc champion 13 months, youngest int. fc. at 27 months in SPO trials ( early 90's) no other information.
Maybe someone else knows more about these dogs or others and I don't minded relaying information, just give me all you got on the dog.

Jimmy, I remember when all that happened. Felt really bad for ol' Jackson though I doubt he worried about it much. Lynn Perkins ran with him in a trial when he was up in years and he said that he was as tough at 7 or 8 as any young hound he ever saw. Is he still living, and are there any young hounds out of him doing well? I'd like to hear more about him, as I believe that he was stripped of his accomplishments by those who were afraid to run against him. Good day to you, David Ramey

SWING, If you would have seen everything I saw that day, you would have a different opinion about Sugar Ray. I remember on one particular run along the lake( probably the best run we had) he got at least 7 or 8 checks in a row and was running 30 yards in front of everything on the drives. Then once we saw the swamper double back and we didn't think the dogs were ever going to find it. Sugar Ray worked it out and soloed it right by us. He did mess up in front of the gallery, but I'm not worried about what LITTLE BIT the gallery sees at a trial, I worry about ALL of what I see. A FC is just a rabbit dog that has proved that it is pretty consistent (3 wins & 120 points). No that wasn't the greatest performance I'd ever seen, but he did plenty enough to win that day. Whether the quality of competition was there ; well it's hard to say with only 14 entries, but I would say this dog is FC quality without thinking twice. One thing I can't stand is to here negative comments about a dog that I know for a fact is a nice hound. I liked your dog too and I told you that I had him third and the other judge had another dog third. We decided to watch those two on the next pass and the other judge's pick got two tough checks right in front of us, so I had to give in on 3rd & 4th.
