I hope your right about that frost in Oct., one yr we went to the UP for a week hunt and it got up to 60deg during the day, that to hot to hunt hare, just run dogs with a tee shirt on. One Dec. it warmed and rained away all the snow, white hare on bare ground strange times. Global warming, Elnino = no fun... :(

You're right Patch about those temps.
Where I'll be hunting in northern Vermont and then in northern New Hampshire they will definitely have had several frosts by the time I'm up there but that's no guarantee that it will be cool the two weeks I'm up there.
We hunt in Maine north of Lincoln and several times in October been in T shirts by lunch time.
On the other hand I've also hunted up there in October on a couple of inches of snow from one of those early dustings.
But like I always say "a bad day in the woods is still better than a good day at work.............wait a minute,I'm retired ! They're all good days now !" LOL

Life begins at retirement other than the ole grey mare ain't what she used to be physically. I'm thinking this entire thing is backwards as people should start out retired and then work when they haven't the ability to do much else! LOL I don't know what kind of a job that would be in our day but I see it happening in the future with working from home on the computer! I see a lot of work being done these days called telework or working from home.

Today's forecast-----"hot and steamy with temps.93-95 and a heat index that feels like a 100".Sheeesh !!!!!! This has been one hot summer and my dogs have been run less than ever before but I just can't get into going in this heat. Not enjoyable for me.
My dog lot looks likes the surface of the moon where the beagles have dug deep holes in the dirt to lay in to get some relief from the temps.----and it's shaded too !
Keep those dog's water buckets full and they like fresh water too.

It came a downpour for about twenty minutes here in Morristown last evening. The cloud came from Newport across I-81, Exit 12, and gave us a needed rain. I live near Exit 8. I can run dogs about a mile from Exit 8. I got up this morning and it was nice and cool and wet. I thought here is my opportunity. I drove over and predictably, I don't think it rained at all on the bean field. I turned loose at about 7:00.

In spite of the dry weather there was a good dew, and the hounds soon had one up in the bean field. He zigged awhile then crossed the road into woods. They ran better in the woods, the rabbit probably ran straighter. I saw the cottontail but when the dogs reached that spot there was a check. One opened and then another. However they were on two separate cottontails. Two young dogs went one direction and the three older took the original rabbit back across the road into the bean field. It was tough scenting on the dry dirt road. They had to reach to keep it going.

As I stood listening to the hounds run, I reflected on the blessings God has provided me. There was a guy flying a battery powered model air plane about 200 yds away. It wasn't loud and it dipped and flipped back and fourth gracefully. The sun was peeping over the trees, the hounds were busy, my dependable Frontier was there awaiting when I decided to leave.

I had at least three nice nuns but they struggled some. By 8:00 AM it was getting warm. I called the dogs, gave them all some water and the jumped another. By 9:00 I had enough.

Another good day in East Tennessee. The Meteorologists are predicting rain and a little cooler by mid week.

I live in south miss and it is hot. I am retired so time is not a factor for me. I run 6 nights a week rain or shine but lately have been leaving the house about 10 pm. some nights it only drops to about 85 so you still have to be careful with dogs that are not in good shape. its getting close to trial time so we have to do the best we can. keep them plenty of water and keep an eye on them. see u at the trials

Yup, they say maybe only in the 80's Thursday. We been on a 6 day string of 90's w/ high humidly enough to soak you without raining. Grass grows like crazy, cows home on pasture now, should be good for a long while with the rain, it's recovered from the hay crop.
Ole Tank got loose the other day after I'd went to work, guess he ran all evening as when i got home at midnight, he was come back home and the dogs took to barking and I found him all tore up laying by the barn without the energy to come to me. I think he over did it as he been laying low the last couple days. Got him a new french snap, maybe that will hold him.

Pete, I watch your videos on your running, sure looks like nice country. I saw the vids on your garmin troubles and they made me mad and I heard the hopelessness in your voice as you pleaded with garmin for some help. It only made me distrust them even more. If the dog is laying 6 feet from you and the garmin says it's 700yd from you, how can you believe any of the information about distance or speed when the collar don't really know where the hound is? That sure is a lot of money to sink into something that malfunctions and dry-rots from the inside. When you cracked the collar box open it looked fried. I'd say they're going to have to improve and seal them up better.
You seem like a real nice guy and I wish you the best resolving your problem...

Shoot ! Had those nice cooler mornings about 10 days ago and I got to run 4 out of 5 days and it felt great.
Now we're right back in the mid 90's and very humid and it feels like an oven outside and the thermometers in the sun reading 100+.
When I lived in New Hampshire we always considered September a Fall month as we often got several early frosts and the leaves began to change.
Here in Tennessee I figure September is still summer time and we regularly swim out at the lake till October 1.
Spoke to two of my friends in New Hampshire the past couple of nights and VERY much looking forward to doing some hare hunting with them in mid-October.
