Buck he's what I call a tri-tic. He has blue ticking around the neck and red ticking on his legs. He just now came to the house after about 20 hrs. on the ground. I stayed up and listened to him run until I couldn't hold my head up any more. He isn't near as pretty to look at now as he was when I turned him loose.

Tony83: Your post offended everyone you referred to. How many dogs you own my friend? How big is the couch you lay on to watch your beagle videos? When was the last time you went hunting? Come on, you know what they say about glass houses and big targets.

BCBeagles wrote:My last one on this, if MVK's dog ain't worth 1,200 with the tools to be great and showing that at a year, what is worth that?????? Again, I say you get what you pay for with evaluation under the correct situation. I have paid more for the same type of dog, did not handle worth a crap, very, very solid hound and I do not regret it one second. About 10 trips with consistant tritronics and you only have to yell a couple times now and she will be back to check in on you.

If MVK puts a season on this hound in question, gets him even further along and he has a handle you think 1200 will touch him???? Buy him while the price is right!!!!!!

1200 is cheap I paid 300.00 for a pup time the vet is done I will have 600.00 into it before its 6months old. But I only do pups a starter pup around here will be 4 to 5 hundred. Really he's giving the dog for free!

Buck I just was up for friendly chase. Not saying that if the dog suits me that I wouldn't try and get him. That's what you've taught me to go after what I want. I'm also glad you love me otherwise you may say negative things about me.

Littlewoody: you are less than an hour from me. I will sell you all the well started pups you want with blood lines to match for your stated price of $500 per. These dogs will be right around 1 year old or younger and guaranteed to run with anything. I have one here that is out of Brankos Freejack that just turned 2 years old that will knock your socks off and I will sell him for $500 too. I have one out of Ferriers Wrangler that is 15 months old and I will sell him for $500 with the same guarantees.

Point being...That is a lot of money to me for a young dog but I can supply them for those who think that is reasonable. I only pay that for one that is exceptional. Exceptional in the sense that it will out do the ones I have at the same age.

augerhead wrote:Where's is the HUNT! What happened to the young dogs of the old days when you turned them loose you had to worry about how to get them back. Now it seems you have other worries like tripping on them. I used to have to work hard on them to get them to handle, not any more just cough or stop hissing and walking they will be right at your feet. I am not talking about one breed or dog just beagles as a whole. JMO
I don't know who or what line of dogs you are hunting with but I can promise you they are all not like that.

Hurry up, not going to talk any one blood line, just a general statement don't seem to have the go they used to. I've had several different bloodlines out of some bigtime fcs, but like I said maybe its string of bad luck.

Bradh wrote:Quality comes at a price if you want to find that one dog you have to work for it they don't usually come knocking at your door don't settle with a faulty dog they either have it or they don't. I was lucky to have pretty good mentors that put me on the right path and one thing I know is if you want to find the dog thats fits what your looking for exactly it usually is going to take a lot of time a lot of gas and a lot of patience not to mention your going to have to commit to putting in the early mornings and late nights it takes to have that dog reach it's full potential.

I think dogs today are better then they were in the old days I think we remember the dog for what it was at the top of it's game as a finished dog and not the thousands of hours we spent putting it on tracks breaking it off deer and looking for it when it ran off for no reason instead we keep the memory of those few short years when they are at there peak.

I wish you the best at finding what your looking for the good ones are out there it's just a question of weather or not your willing to do the work it takes to find them.

BBB just stating an opinion it's not the quality of dogs but the way they are handled how do you judge a young dog by taking it out and loosing it with 14 more. You spoke of road crossings what does that have to do with a rabbit dog. FYI I have hunted my whole life and have seen some really good hounds go. I've never been impressed with the hound that skirts out and crosses the road. The hound that goes deep in the swamp or thicket at 1pm and jumps the rabbit in 100 degree heat is my choice. I'm not so stupid to be in awe with a dog that gets the front end in a place they have been hunted their whole lives and know every path. The hound that drives a rabbit down a dirt road in conditions so dry the dust is balling behind them impresses me. Auger head I would say to you how did you handle the dogs of ole that you speak of, were you more concerned then in having a rabbit dog or something to reach out and grab the front end. In summation we must define a rabbit dog before we know what we do or don't have. To me rabbit dog means dependability no matter when or where you turn loose they will find a bunny and either bring it to the gun or pound it into a hole. Curious to hear other ideas on a rabbit dog.
