LOL, baby bird...UPDATE - Run of the House

Wow I just found this post, very cool! The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I found two baby birds that had fallen from the barn eves onto the roof of the milkhouse (guessing 15 feet). One was dead, but the other was moving so I took him in and began to care for him. He already had his eyes open but didn't have many feathers, I have no idea what kind of bird it was but it was pretty big. He lived for about one week and ate well, but eventually he died, I don't know if it was from injuries caused by the fall or something I did wrong. Two other birds ended up falling onto the milkhouse and dying too. I wish that little bird would have made it, but I tried. Good luck with your sparrow Bev! My kids really enjoyed watching the videos!

I think I posted - maybe on another thread, that Pooper (Scrapper) flew away to be with the other sparrows. I was in the process of weaning him to the outdoors by placing his cage outside on the back driveway for a few hours each day so that he could interact with the rest of the sparrows, many of which would land right on his cage and communicate with him. I knew that he could fly well and could pick up seeds to feed himself, etc., but I wasn't quite ready to turn him loose. I was gonna give it a few more days. One day I picked the cage up by the handle to bring him in, and the top panel gave way just enough that he flew out. I was sick-hearted, but he wanted to go with the other birds. *sighs*
I have a 30-minute documentary video of his life with me - from age 1 day until a few days after he was gone (me filming to see if I could pick him out of the crowd in my back yard). One of these days I will polish up the video and post it somehow. It's too large for YouTube, lol.
