Bordetella
Bordetella is the most common cause of tracheobronchitis (kennel cough) in dogs. It is a bacterial illness that is most common among dogs that congregate at things like shows, kennels or other places frequented by large numbers of dogs at once. It does not appear that this bacterin gives a full year of immunity in many instances. For dogs that are often exposed to situations in which the infection is likely probably should be vaccinated twice a year. There are intra-nasal as well as subcutaneous bacterins available for this disease. The intra-nasal bacterin confers immunity more quickly but the injectable version may last longer.
We use the injections At least once a year and no problems with it this year.
We do a lot of Dog shows and you would be surprised how often dogs can get this. isolation is the best thing as it can go round and round in a kennel...

From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
There has been a lot of kennel cough travelling around the flyball dogs in Ontario. Many had the vaccination but there are many different strains of kennel cough just as there is in human flu. The vaccine is not always the protection we think it is. Wash your hands and limit exposure if other dogs appear to be sick. It is a risk we take every time the dogs interact with other dogs. Oh ya, wash your hands!!! Carolyn
Kennel Cough
I just had it go through my whole kennel, all dogs were over it in about 2 weeks. I gave them an antibiotic to prevent any secondary infections, but that is about all you can do. Try adding a cap of bleach to their drinking water each day, this is a home remedy, but seems to help them get over it quicker. Mine got over it in less than two weeks this time, in the past it has taken me as long as a month.

Just had kennel cough at my house also. Sorry if your pup got it at my house while I was running her for you. Have you had a chance to get her out since you got her back? I have got my Shayne/Rose pups going now. Give me a buzz and we will get together and run some hounds.

kennel cough
I give my dogs 3/4 of a cc of Tylan 50... helps speed up recovery time.
You can buy it at most Tractor supply stores or livestock feed stores.
I have never had much luck with any Kennel cough vac.
I go to a lot of trials and shows and have seen it more times than not.
It takes time for it to run is course.
Good Luck
