I have the 5000/25 for myself and really like the small compact size of the Tracker reciver. The 1000/5 is the same Maxima unit just has a smaller frequency range. They are light and easy to carry, and very simple to use.

I know a few people that have them they really love them or really hate them. They are alittle bit harder to use than almost any other tracking system but once you get used to it it is no problem. I do like the small compact size of it. Depending what you are using it for You might want to look into the innotec rd 400 I believe it tracks up to 64 channels and is alot less than the tracker. I have a friend that I hunt with all the time that has one of these and it works great We haven't had any problems tracking hounds at all and we do alot of coonhunting also and they will follow a track for miles I believe they are around $400-$500

I've had the 1000/10 for 4 years and won't give it up anytime soon.I like it real well and am glad I bought it. I find the only thing difficult about using it is more often then not me. If your not taking in account for terrian and moving dogs you can get to wondering about the thing. I have a Johnson system too but never use it, I always find em with the Tracker. A regular battery will give you trouble in below zero weather, I found that lithium batter's fix this.Your choice of collar has a lot to do with how well the system works too. I use mostly Johnson but do use the Tracker Srike collar and it beats the Johnsons for signal strenght. Do a search over on Rabbit Hunting Online in the gear review section, should be more on all this.

I have a 1000/5 for my beagles. Kinda hard to use and very expensive but it works.
If you only need two collars I would get the two dog tracker classic.

I think you'd be more than happy using an Icom.

You can have 1000 collars per freq. I happen to run 219 so I can use 1000 collars on that freq. 219.000 - 219.999.

If your rabbit hunting you may not need the booster. But if you dog gets out far ( runs trash) you may want the booster on the system to better locate.

Icom R10 Cheat Sheet

1. Press power button.

2. Press v/m button until you see VFO on display.

3. Press mode button until you see LSB on display.

4. Now enter your collar frequency ( ex. 217.5550) Most collars only have three digits after the decimal. Put ) in the last place.

5. Rotate tuning dial to tune collar to sharpest beep. Make sure when turning tune knob, the last digit to the right of decimal is changing. If not, tune steps must be changed. See page 13 of owners manual.

6. Squelch knob controls the amount of gain or reception. Rotaing counter clockwise increases gain, rotating clockwise decreases gain.

7. On top of the squelsch knob is the volume knob. Adjust to your liking.

8. If the dog is close and overpowering the receiver, the attenuator can be turned on. To turn on attenuator press and hold function button (on side of receiver) then press 0. ATT should now be on display. To turn off perform same function as turning on. Do not leave ATT on, this greatly reduces tracking distance.

9. To reset receiver, with power off, press and hold the clear button. Press power on button, receiver will ask you to clear. Turn dial until display says: yes. Press enter. This will reset receiver back to factory default.

The icom R10 are not being made no more they have R20 but it is about 460.00 or 480.00 for that box . I was told it is the some but with 2 or 3 button more than the R10, but the are no good for tracking. If your only using no more than 5 to 10 collars at a time I would check on a wildlife box. I have icom but some of my freind have wildlife, they track better than icoms .

I think the debate on the ICOM is personal experience as well as using the right equipment with it. I have out tracked people using a wildlife with my ICOM.

Using the Icom by itself with the factory antenna it comes with, then yes it will not compete with other tracking systems. But using the Icom with the yagi and booster, hands down the Icom.

I have hunted with Drew before and he used his Icom I actually liked it from what I seen when we hunted together. Seemed easy to work and was real good at locating the dogs close in or further out. So I can say from seeing it worked with the proper equipment it does work good as a tracker.
