How much food?

Post by BAYOU »

It's been probably talked about before but how much do you guys feed your pups. Mine are 5 months old now and if they always have food they just eat it and poop everything out. I want to make sure they get enough so that lack of food doesn't stunt there growth.

It depends on the line of dogs. Some dogs will eat everything but the food bowl and then squirt it out. Some you can put on a self feeder and their ribs will show. Each dog is different. When my dogs/pups start having loose stools I cut back on the food until they are firm again. I feed pups twice a day but I limit the amount according to their needs. No use wasting feed and making a bigger mess.
I don't want my dogs ribs showing but I don't want a dog that is extremely overweight.

I use the self feed method for the pups. I have one pup that is 5 months and I have a 10lb self feeder in his lot and have to fill it up about every week and a half to 2 weeks. I figure that the pups need as much food and water when they are small as they want. I also put vitamines in the feed, just space them out so he can get one every couple of days.
