BAD NIGHT
TURNED LOOSE 2 FEMALES YESTERDAY TO RUN IN CORN FIELDS WHILE I WORKED, CAME HOME TO FIND BOTH DEAD BOTH WERE GRAND PUPS FROM SOCK IT TO ME,ABOUT 3YEARS A PIECE ALSO HAD YOUNG MALE LOOSE OUT OF HANKS SUGAR CAMP DRIVER,HE WAS TIRED AND LAYED OUT BUT JUST HOT ,TALKED TO A NIEGHBOR SAID THEY WERE STILL RUNNING AT 2.00PM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. SEEMS LIKE ONCE THEY GOT HOT THEY WOULD QUIT =RAN FROM 5.30 AM TO ABOUT 2.30PM LOADED THEM UP TOOK TO VET HE SAID HEAT EXHAUSTION WAS THE PROBLEM- HATE TO LOOSE EM HOPEFULLY THERE IN A PLACE THAT HAS NO HEAT -GOODBYE MS PATTY AND MS DEE .BOYS LEARN FROM THIS HEAT DOES AND CAN KILL

Jimmie, that took a lot of guts to post something like that in a public forum. I know you did it so others could learn from your mistake. We all need to be cautious when running our dogs, not just because of the heat, but also because dogs come up missing when left alone to run in the open field.
Sorry for your loss, and hopefully everyone can learn from this.

I LIVE IN A SECLUDED AREA OF AROUND 300 ACRES I HAVE KICKED DOGS LOOSE FOR SEVERAL YEARS ,BASICALLY I HAVE NEVER LOST A DOG TO HEAT- MY DOGS RUN TILL THEY GET HOT AND COME ON IN,THEY ALL WAYS GREET ME AT THE FARM ENTRANCE-THE FEMALES WERE MORE OR LESS FARM HOUNDS ANYWAY-LEFT LOOSE MOST OF THE TIME ANYWAY, I STARTED WONDERING THIS MORNING ON MY WAY IN -THEY WERE HARE BRED TOP SIDE AND COTTEN TAIL BOTTOM-MY MALE IS HAREBOTH SIDES -LUMBERJACK BOTTOM SIDE AND PACESETTER TOP

I had a buddy that thought he was tough til he nearly died of heat stroke once.

Sorry you lost your females.
Sometimes conditions we do not know of can cause problems running. I used to always let mine run loose and they would come in when they got ready. Does make them stronger and in better shape.
Could have been what they ate or drank or what they didn't eat or drink before running or the ground heat may of been different than normal. Dryer, more sunny, air flow, and temperature or humidity different.
Some conditions will suck the life out of you or an animal much faster than others and they would not know it nor would most people.

80 degrees can cause a heat stroke
my vet says that some dogs that are exercised heavily can have a fatal heat stroke at temps as low as 79-80 degrees.Can even cause kidney damage also.
